Shasta Ski Bowl Registration For Skiing School Starts On Monday MOUNT SHASTA-Registration for the seventh annual Mount Shasta Herald Ski School began jHunuay. negisirauon lee is i. Instruction will be given to school students from the fourth grade through high school age, and will be held each Saturday beginning Feb. 4. ending with a carnival and field 'day March 11 and 12. Advanced instruction will be given for the first time this year. It is open to those who hold the Class A badge from the school. Mount Shasta Sjti Bowl is co Sponsor of the meet, to which students from Yreka, Weed, Duns- muir, McCioud and Mount Shas- ta are eligible. Recreational dis tricts and school buses will trans port the expected 450 enrollees to the skiing slopes. Mrs. Velma Nile, career physi cal education teacher, will head the school, aided by 35 instruc tors heading various groups. This will be the fifth year she has been connected with the school The school was originally held on Snowman's Hill. In case ot storms blocking the road to the ski bowl, it will be moved there again, until the road is opened, California Briefs Happy Camp MR. AND MRS. CARL JOHN SON held a snack party at their home during the midnight inter mission of the annual Christmas Eve dance in Etna. Their son, . Jerry, was host. He is a College of the Siskiyous freshman. MERWYN RICKEY of Quartz Valley directed the suspense- filled comedy. "Bull in a China Shop," presented in the multipur pose room of the Etna Union High School Dec. 16 and 17. The play by C. B. Gilford was a great suc cess and a record crowd filled the.room both nights. MRS. JOYCE PARKS, formeri Quartz Valley resident, spent the Christmas vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mueller and their fam ily in San Diego. MR. AND MRS. HARVEY PALMER JR. spent the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Palmer, and with Mrs. Palmer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther White, here. The younger Palmers are residents of Ala meda. . "He snapped at me you know, ' getting up on his legs in a de fensive position," said Mrs. Bene dictus. "1 tried to corner him with a larger box, but I couldn't. "It finally chased me up on top of a table." Mrs. Benedictus bided her time. When she thought she could make it to the telephone without being nibbled at by the alligator, she jumped from the table top and called sheriff's deputies. Intrepid deputies soon corraneu the 'gator and placed It in a large pan containing some water. The alligator quickly stretched out and went to sleep. But Mrs. Benedictus' day of surprises wasn't over yet. When she had given the mail-order firm $6 during a recent trip to New ' Orleans to send her the reptile, she thought the firm would place In the box whatever change she had coming along with the 'gator. '-At when this was all over, the alligator in the pan. I looked in the box and there was a little turtle they had sent me to make ! up for the extra money I gave them." .
