(AP) -i Jerry Davis, an 11-year-old hero to this casters Oregon town, received a special gift for Christmas, but can't use it yet. Friday, fire chief R. J. Prahl received a $100 check from a St Louis firm. It was to start a col lege education fund for Jerry. The lad, son of Mr. 'and Mrs. Loren Davis, made two trips into the family's burning home here recently to save his two younger brothers, ages two and four. The home was destroyed. Jerry was hospitalized with his burns, but be'U be home for Christmas. The boy's mother said he has received Christmas cards from all ever Oregon and the nation. Some tenders enclosed money, she add ed. Can't Find Jet ' MANZANITA, Ore. (AP) -Pieces of an Air Foree F-102 Del ta Dagger plane which crashed into the ocean near here Dec. 14 re washing up on the beach. But scuba divers so far have been unable to locate the plane, A team of Navy divers from the 13th Naval District, Bremerton, Wash., Friday prowled the ocean floor, 35 feet down, but found nothing. - The divers said that currents buffeted them about and slammed them against the ocean floor. The divers were lowered. into the wa ter by helicopter and later were picked up and flown to shore. . The Navy teams plan to re main here to continue the search. . The plane plunged into the ocean after Lt. Joseph P. Rios of the 460th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Portland had bailed out. He was rescued. Truck Hit Building ' PORTLAND (AP) A driver- less truck, loaded with 45,000 pounds of food, crashed through a building in the southwest Port land suburbs Friday, doing an es timated $12,000 damage. . No one was injured. The driver of the truck, Floyd W. Przybylski, 35, Tacoma, told police he set the brakes when he parked the vehicle to go into Klamatti Pall. Farm Loans SALEM (AP) - The state De partment of Veterans Affairs Fri day said that farm and home loans would be made In March to the 1,400 veterans who were on the waiting list at the time of the November general election. At that election, voters ap proved $135 million in bonds to continue the lending program. Since the election, - the depart ment has been getting about 20 loan .applications a day, about three times the volume of appli cations before the election. The department plans to sell the first batch of bonds in Feb ruary. aft Fines Levied SALEM (AP) - Public Utility Commissioner Jonel C. Hill Fri day levied fines of $300 each against John T. Nix Jr., Albany, and Clackamas Trucking Co., Clackamas. He said Nix was fined for haul ing seed without a permit, and that the Clackamas firm hauled beet pulp without proper permit Medical Projects PORTLAND (AP) - The Uni versity of Oregon Medical School Will begin work Jan. 1 on five projects financed by $157,000 in grants from the Public Health Serviced The money will be used for re search - and graduate training work in psychiatry, physiology and anatomy. Gets Tiring PORTLAND (AP) A woman telephoned the Portland Air Base Friday to find out why so many jet planes were flying. 1 1 . Purchase Okayed WASHINGTON (AP) - Pacific Power & Light Co. was authorized Friday by the Federal Power Commission to buy Southern Wyo ming Utilities Co. and Union Pa cific Coal Co. for about $3 million, Facilities of the two firms are used to provide electric and wa ter service to the Green River, Rock Springs and Hanna, Wyo., las. Autopsy Studied PORTLAND (AP) Results of an autopsy are being studied in the death of Leonard Martin, 58, Portland. Cutting Of Tree Brings Trouble To Benefactor WOODSTOCK, 111. (AP)-An 18- year-old youth cut down a Christ mas tree for a girl friend. The tree, an 8-foot evergreen. was chopped down in Woodstock City Park, police said, by Richard Fournier. He admitted he cut down the tree 'after he heard a sad story from a girl friend. Police said he told them the girl's father was working only part tune. There wasn t much money for gifts. There wasn't much hope for having a Christ mas tree.' '' Fournier, overcome with the Christmas spirit but short of cash, got the tree and v set it tip in the girl's living room. They decorated the tree and there was much joy in the girl's house. He didn't tell her where he got the tree. The girl was not identifieo. But park employes noticed the disappearance of the tree and aft er much investigation police ar rested Fournier and charged him with malicious mischief. Fournier, facing a possible max imum penalty of a $500 fine and a year in jail, also faces spending Christmas in lau. He said Wednes day he has no hope of providing the $1,000 bond to gain his release before his case comes before the justice of the peace on Dec. 30. Misses St. Nick Twice This Year JACKSONVILLE. Fla. (API- Marc Schroder missed jolly old St. Nick twice this year. After a three-month visit here, Schroder left Friday just two days before Santa Claus' arrival for his home in The Nether lands. He'll arrive too late for the traditional visit of Saint Nicholas to his homeland, which he said comes on Dec. 5. RUSK SON ENGAGED SCARSDALE, N.Y. (UPI)-Da- vid P. Rusk, 20, eldest son of Secretary of State-designate Dean Rusk, will be married next sum mer to an Argentine girl. John Moaney, who is being treated at Walter Reed Army Medical Cen ter for a serious infection in his left hand. Moaney has been the President's personal servant since early in World War II.
