he felt it was only right that the
tenants should get the money. He
said he hopes to get the checks
to everyone by Christmas Day.
Many of the recipients have been
transferred to bases in remote
parts of the world.

Dear Ann Landers: Our son Is
good-looking fellow, 23. He has
a fine position and should amount
to something someday. Chuck has

but he never
was serious
until now,
Along came
this little snip
who is deter
mined to get him by hook or by
crook. The big problem is the
hours he keeps. Every Satur
day nieht he is out until 4:00
m., then he has to get up early
Sunday morning to cart the girl
to church. We, don't see him un
til early Monday .morning.
The snip has such a strangle
hold on Chuck it has made me
dislike her intensely. I'll never ac
cept her into the family and he
knows it. Do I have a right to
feel this way? Please tell me
what you think about the awful
hours he keeps. I get no help

Last night when Clyde came
home from work he smelled
smoke in the house. He said
"Who.'s been smoking?" I told
him the electrician had been in
to fix the wall-heaters. He asked
me when electricians started to
wear lipstick. I knew I was sunk.

can make things right is to stop
smoking. I enjoy smoking and
don t see why I should quit.

Men Involved
With Girl, 15,
Face Charges
LAKEVIEW One man accused
of contributing to the delinquency
of a minor and another charged
with statutory rape faced court
proceedings here. -
Charges allegedly stemmed from
their involvement with a 15-year-
old girl.
R. V. Randolph, 25, Lakeview,
pleaded guilty to the contributing
charge and waived appearance be
fore the grand jury in Judge
Charles H. Foster's circuit court
Saturday morning. He was sen
tenced to five years probation.
Daniel Dunrath Campbell, who
was picked up in Red Bluff by
sheriff's deputies and returned
here, waived a preliminary hear
ing and was bound over to the
grand jury. He was charged with
rape.
Because Randolph's offense was .
his first. Attorney Robert Nichols
recommended leniency. The
charge carries a penalty of up to
five years in a penitentiary.
Judgo Foster lectured Randolph
sternly. He assured Randolph that. !
unless he complies with the letter
of probationary terms, he will be
sent to prison.
Also charged with statutory rape
in the case was Larry Ray Wells, ;
21, Lakeview. He was bound over
to the grand Jury recently fol
lowing a preliminary hearing.

Three Hotels
Are Held Up i

PORTLAND (AP)-Three hotels
were held up here and police ar
rested Thursday a man they iden
tified as Earl Porter Steffcs, 33,
Portland.
Detectives took Steffes into cus
tody a few minutes after the
Treves Hotel was held up.
Earlier, the Fifth Avenue and
St. Francis hotels were held up.
Police said the robber in all threea
holdups said: "I have got six kids
to support."
Officers said they found on Stef-1
fes nearly 870 and a toy pistol.
He was held without formal
charge.

Union has amassed more than
five times the number of subma
rines with which Nazi Germany
almost cut the Allied supply lines
across the Atlantic in World
War H, the authoritative Jane's
Fighting Ships reported today.
Jane's said the Russians now
had more submarines than all of
the rest of the world put together
including half a dozen atomic
submarines built or building and
six missile-firing submarines. It
put total strength at between 450
and 500.
The new edition of Jane's said
the Russians based their strategy

come they could sweep the seas
clear of shipping and starve
America's NATO allies into sub
