Conn. (UPI)-Soviet Russia and Communist China were warned today that they would be inviting their own destruction if they attempted a surprise attack upon this country. The warning came from Gen. Lyman L. Lemnitzer, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at the launching of the mammoth Po laris missile-firing nuclear subma rine Ethan Allen, whose 16 therm onuclear rockets have a target range of 1,500 miles. Lemnitzer, speaker at the chris tening at the Electric Boat Yards of General Dynamics Corp., said "The Communist leaders have respect for only one thing mili tary power. "Our enemy must know at all times that we maintain the cer tain ability to destroy him no matter how, or with what attempt to achieve surprise, he might seek to attack us. We have that capa bility now, he said. Lemnitzer declared that "the Ethan Allen and the long line of fleet ballistic submarines which follow It taken as a part of our over-all invulnerable retaliatory forces give unmistakable evi dence to the world that we intend to maintain and enhance that capability in 4he future."
