The small settle ment on the banks of Link River later became the present day city of Klamath Falls. The luncheon meeting at the Willard Hotel was attended by more than 100 persons from this area and Northern California. (APi-A meteor that blazed across Oregon skies j and was visible over Washington on a Sept. 20 west-to-east run may have left some of its bits in Ida-1 ho's Sawtooth Mountains or near-' by Big Baldy. Phil K. Brogan, Pacific North west director for the American' Meteor Society, said Saturday many observers in Oregon. Ida ho and Washington supplied re-, ports that made possible charting' of the fireball's course. He said that as it flashed across the sky throwing a shower of; sparks that seemed to form a! tail. (Nell) Hancock and W. R. Boyd, both of Klamath Falls, were joined by historians of Klamath and Siskiyou counties October 29 in commemorating the founder of Linkville, George Nurse. Some 100 interested persons were present at the Willard Hotel for a luncheon and review of the early settler's philanthropy. Speakers were Floyd Wynne, city councilman who reviewed the early life of the man who bought the land from the state of Oregon upon which the small settlement grew, and Orlo Steel, Yreka. Steel knew Nurse in his later years. Wynne also announced the pro posal by ballot at the November election to pay tribute to the city's founder by renaming the present Veterans Memorial Park the GeorEe Nurse Memorial Park. Nurse also built the first hotel, the first bridge across Link Riv er, was the first postmaster and gave countless acres of land to the early settlers with the only provision that they build homes upon the land. j Wynne also sought the loan of any historical data or pictures that can ' be compiled for the Klamath Falls Centennial in 1967.!
