I960 PAGE 7 A Girl Scout Tea To Honor Founder Klamath Area Girl Si'outs join all councils over the nation this week in commemorating the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Juliette Low. founder in the United States of the Girl Scout movement. Born on October 31, 18M, Juli ette Low 'known to her inti mates as Daisy I started the first troop with seven girls in Savan nah, Georgia, her home city. From this original troop of seven In 1312. Girl Scouts today in the United States number over 3,400, 000. Girl Scouts of the Klamath Area Council will observe this important occasion with a Moth er - Daughter Silver Tea on Sat urday, October 29, in the city library party room from 1;30 to 3:30 p.m. Junior high school troops from Altamont and Fremont are in charge of the appointments for the Juliette Low tea, and will serve as hostesses for the after noon. All friends, as well as mem bers of Girl Scouting, are invited to this Mother-Daughter tea which officially launches the Girl Scouts' birthday years program designed to carry through to March 1W2 in "Honoring the Past And Serv ing the Future." Honored guests introduced were Sandra (Dehlinger) Grant, Maur een i Lyon Campbell, and Linda (DcLapl Bliss, all past honored queens of Henley Bethel. Bethel No. 51 Go To Church Day will be October 30 at Mt. Laki Presbyterian Church. But Mrs. Henry Cabot lxxlge. wife of the Republican candidate for the vice presidency, seems so completely unselfronscious and in lerested in you. You can under stand why somione once com mented: "Every man in politics should marry an Emily Lodge." Now on the campaign trail with her husband, she keeps in the background, graciously acknow ledging introductions with a smile and saying not a word. She simply doesn't like to make speeches. She rarely gives an in terview, because, she says. "I haven't very much to say; Cabot savs it so well. I iust pick up the things we forget, pack, see that Cabot's led. that sort of thing." But as for campaigning "1 adore it. Since I have no respon sibilities and no speechmaking, I can just enjoy meeting people and seeing the beautiful country. There are places I've never been .before, such as Northern California." She doesn t nave an opinion 'about the election outcome. "I don't think that far ahead." she says. "I don't believe in counting my chickens. Or as my laihei jused to say: 'Man proposes. God j disposes." I live for today and do all 1 can, and don't think beyond to Nov. 8. "I do think, however, il would jbe fine if Cabot becomes vice president. I certainly hope he does. He's a very well trained and hardworking man. And he has op timism about people, about Ibis jcountry. I "Elections are terribly exciting. And this one especially. There is so much at stake." Invocation was given by Mrs. Bonnie Finehum. The president, Mrs. Garrett Hil yard, called the meeting to order. First grade won the room count. The membership chairman re ported that the membership drive would start October 10. All par ents wishing to join could send' money to school with their child. There will be a cash prize award-' ed to the room with the mostj members. The budget was presented for the year 10-BI. There was group discussion and suggestions made on a project, to work for this j year. The budget was approved as presented. j Mrs. Hilyard then turned meeting over to program chair-. man. Mrs. Viola Cheyne. Barba ra Dehlinger presented a very in teresting talk on the C o n n a 1 1 y Amendment. Meeting was ad journed. The first grade mothers served refreshments.
