The figure was 11,000 more than In September. 1959, but it dropped 19,000 from the preceding month. Cameron said the drop was nor mal because of the fall decline in farm employment. Cameron esti mated there were 26,500 unem ployed persons last month, or 4,800 more than a year earlier. However, unemployment de creased by 3,200 from the August figure. Cameron said this drop was caused by reopening of schools, causing withdrawal of stu dents from the labor market. Cameron said employment in 24 counties is better than a year ago, with Multnomah, Lane, Washing ton and Douglas counties having the largest gains. Cat-scratch fever Is a rela tively new disease, or at least has been recognized only during the last few years. Although the cat is looked upon as the carrier and a scratch the usual mode of transmission, the cause of the , disease is a virus and not the cat. Typically, a perion is scratched hy a cat. Two to four weeks later a sore develops at the sue of the scratch. Nearby glands swell and the victim develops a lever which lasts about 10 days. These and other symptoms gradu ally go away.
