'aiT? 1 Indian Reservation Funds Distributed Paymcnls totaling $H05.100 and representing part of the Klamath Tribe's total assets were sent out today on a pro rata distribution to the withdrawing members of the tribe under the Klamath tri bal termination program, Don Foster, area .director of the Bu- More Dems Than GOP By Three LAKEVIEW Lake County has three more Democrats than Re publicans according to the figures compiled at the county clerk's office here at the close of regis tration for the November 8 elec tion. The totals show 1,725 Demo cYats, 1,722 Republicans and 52 others. In the May primaries there had been a rush of party changes because of a preference for some candidates on the Re publican ticket and that party showed a lead at that time of 134. Since then approximately 80 per cent have changed back to the original party, and there have been 229 new registrations. The number of independents signing up showed an unusually heavy figure for this county. In the 1956 records the total for the county was 3,513 and the Democrats were then leading by 276. icau of Indian Affairs, Depart mcnt of the Interior, announced. This represents a pavment of i$485 to each of 1,660 withdrawing members and is the second one made in the termination proceed ings. A pro rata distribution of $1,300 to each withdrawing mem ber was made last spring. The money for this distribution was derived from the sale of the Klamath Marsh to the Fish and Wildlife Service for $476,401 and from the sale of timber and er- sonal property. The Fish and Wildlife Service will retain the Klamath Marsh as a waterfowl refuge. Not all of this payment of $1(05, 100 will go in cash to the mem bers, as there are offsets totaling $391,711 that will be applied against Indebtedness of the mem bers to the government under such categories as land or er sonal property purchases, revolv ing credit, irrigation, operation and maintenance charges and miscellaneous. However, there will be net paments to benefi ciaries amounting to $413,338 in volving 795 checks to withdraw ing members and 243 checks to heirs of withdrawing members. Of the total checks drawn 659 or 77 per cent will be drawn to trus tees for minors or for adults in need of assistance. Probation Given Man John D. Curfman. 18. 1313 Nim itz Sireet, was placed on proba tion for one year in distric court Tuesday after pleadin. guilty to furnishing liquor to minor. Curfman admitted providing beer found in a car occupied h himself and two other boys. To lice said one of the others, a 16-year-old boy, admitted striking Clark Zadina of Chiloquin in the face while Zadina was walking on the South Sixth Street overpass Saturday night. The blow cut Zadina in one eye. Police otticers said .aama had lost one eye a few years ;ico. at ace 12. and the blow Saturday that shattered his glass es temporarily endangered nis good eye. i Curfman told District Judge D. E. Van Vaclor he had not bought the beer, but he admitted providing it for himself and his two companions. The 16-year-old was being held in city jail pending hearing in juvenile court. The announcement was made today by Lowell C. Jones, own er of the firm. Mr. Smith's extensive business background includes seven years with Boyd Bros. Printing and Of fice Supply in Panama City. He also has served as sales represen tative for Smith Corona Marchant at Miami, Florida. Recently he has been a newspaper account ex ecutive with the Panama City News Herald. Mr. Smith was a student at Ore gon Technical Institute in 1952- ,53. "Once you have lived in the Klamath Country, it is awfully hard to be satisfied living else where." he commented on his re turn to Klamath Falls after a seven-year absence. "Walter's extensive experience in the office supply business will make him a valuable asset to our firm," said Mr. Jones. "And it I will enable him to be of truly 'ex- h ,vs Ml pert service' to the business firms of the Klamath Basin," he added. Mr. Smith is married and the father of two children. Mrs. Smith and the children are still in Flori da, but will move to Klamath Falls shortly after Christmas.
