The committee adopted the pol
icy statement 12-B over objections
ol Charles Bull, Redding, who
charged it was an attempt lo try
lo "ramrod through" department
policy n the committee.
There were signs lhat the com
mittee, appointed under a resolu
tion at a F&G Committee meet
ing in January, would be split
into two tactions those that favor
doe hunting and those who arc
against it.
Tne committee was polled on
whether individual members fa
vored antlerless hunts. Halph Ed
monds, Baker.slield, made the for
mal motion for a poll, although
it was suggested by Bud Boyd,
outdoor columnist for the ban
Francisco Chronicle.
Four members refused to ex-
press any opinion before studying!
the matter lurther. Two members
said ilally they would not lavor
either-scx hunling under any con
dition. Others expressed varying opin
ionsfrom favoring due hunts a
,ound game management to
favoring them only when they
were necessary to halt depreda
tion on farm lands.
Burton Banzhai, l;kiah, another
committee member, asked lor a
poll ol committee members on
whether they favored the 1.137
Busch bill.
The major point of controversy
in the bill is a provision that il
allows county hoards of super
visors a veto power oxer cither
sex hunts in their area. Unless re
newed, terms of the bill expire
alter the 11 Legislature.
Committee members, with a
couple of notable exceptions, did
not favor the supervisors' veto
power, but most favored other
sections of the bill as sound game
management
