The group turned its attention to the .lesson on making sandwiches. Alter eating the sandwiches and enjoying a social lime, the presi dent adjourned the meeting. , taking Mealtime Fun this year under the leadership of Mrs. Gross and Mrs. James Harler, assistant leader, are Cindy Larson, Bonnie Morgan, Jean Thomson, Karen Fairfield, Jodean Anderson. Judy .Asnlord, Jenny Crook, Frances ;Hague, Karen Little and Robyn smith. At our next meeting we will learn how to make brownies. Jean Thomson, News Reporter. MERRY BACHELORS The Merry Bachelors was held ,t Mrs. Stone's. The president called the meeting to order. The flag salute and 4-H pledge were given. The refreshments were served, by Mrs. Stone. Terry High, News Reporter. PINE GROVE SHEEP CLUB ; The Pine Grove Sheep Club met at the home of Dr. W. F. Dean. President Jerry Clardy called the meeting to order. All members .were present. We discussed different kinds of shirts to wear for the fair. A vote was made for each member to bring 10 cents dues at meetings. Dr. Dean showed us some of his "new lambs and Karen Dean gave a report on the different parts of a sheep. The meeting was ad journed and refreshments were served. Govs. Mark 0. Hatfield of Ore gon and Albert D. Rosellini of "How can I be sure I'm loved for myself alone, Mom and not just for my record collection?" . GROUNDHOG GARDENERS The Merrill Groundhog Garden ers met at the Morrill Recreation 'Hall. ' After roll call, two new mem bers were introduced. They were 'Audrene Cunningham and Kathy Kandra. There were two visitors, Denise and Doreen Hill. It was decided that every mem ber bring a pair of overalls, a needle, and thread, so the club could make litter bags for their cars. ' Dave Hill gave a very interesting report on Wildlife Conservation. Due to illness, Bill Poe was ab sent and unable to give his re port, so Audrene Cunningham and he will give reports next meeting Robert Newnham passed refresh ments. The next meeting will be February 12. The meeting was ad journed. .Bill Poe, News Reporter. OLENE BUCKAROOS The Olene Buckaroos 4-H Beef Club had its third meeting at the home of Ronnie Campbell. At pre vious meetings we elected officers as follows: Martha Ragland, presi dent; Martin High, vice presi dent; Tefesa Grimes, news report er; Janet Lyons, secretary; Terry High, treasurer. ' All members have their calves now but no weights were reported We suggested everyone should wear similar outfits this year, but nothing specific was decided. Mr. High asked the members to make reports on feeding calves and the older members to plan on show ing how to groom calves this sum mer. , 'Refreshments were served by Mrs. Campbell. Death Probed By Police CHICAGO (AP) Police today tried to determine whether an eld erly movie projectionist was slain because of his efforts to gain con trol of a union local. Herman Posner, 73, defeated last March as a reform candidate lor president of the Moving Pic ture Machine Operators Union, was found slashed to death early uesday behind his West Side home. The union was investigated by the Senate rackets committee in 1958 which was seeking evidence of alleged corrupt influences. Posner's body was found by members of his family who heard groans back of the house. He ap parently was killed as he parked his car on returning from work His family discounted a robbery motive and told police they be lisved Posner was killed because of his efforts bring about a reform in the union. The Chicago Tribune, which ran a series of articles on alleged cor ruption in the union last October, has posted a $25,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the slayer. Judge Appointed To Acting Post YREKA The State Judicial Council has appointed Judge George Tyler of the Yreka Judi cial District Court acting Siskiyou County Superior Court judge from February 10 through March 3 dur ing the absence of Judge James M. Allen from the Superior Court bench. Judge Tyler will attend normal routine judicial matters in the county superior court in addition to whatever cases Judge. Allen may assign to him. During 1058 69,300,000 pounds of chewing tobacco were manufac tured in the United States. Strike Begins Fourth Month PORTLAND (API - The Port land newspaper strike entered its fourth month today with no end in sight. The Oregonian and the Oregon Journal continued to publish a joint edition at The Oregonian plant with non-union help. The unions continued to picket the plant. The strike started Nov. 10 with the stercotypers walking out when negotiations failed to produce an agreement two months after ex piration of their contract. Little progress has been reported m mediation sessions since. No meet ing between the two parties has been held in some time. None is scheduled. Other unions refused to cross the picket line and several have declared a strike of their own as their contracts expired. The strike has idled 850 union members. Washington and Lt. Gov. Jimms Kcaloha of Hawaii were among mose asKing inr reversal ot a CAB examiner's recommendation that Northwest Airlines be given the Seattle-Portland to Honolulu oute exclusively and that the temporary operating authority of Pan American World Airways be terminated. Examiner Ferdinand D. Moran conciuaea mai Doin airlines were losing money on the route. Also urging that both airlines be iven permanent operating authori ty on the route were Sens. Hiram Fong (R llawaiil and Oren E l-ong (D-Hawaiil, Reps. Daniel K. Inouye (D-Hawaii) and Thoma M. Pelly (HWashl and Mayor Gordon Clinton of Seattle. Hawaii's spokesmen emphasized that the islands are uniquely de pendent upon air transportation (or economic growth, and credited 10 years of competition between ONE LOOK TOO MANY ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (UP1) It was "looking at girls" that started the trouble for Aaron Artson. That's what Artson, 29, said he 1 was doing when he made an il legal turn and was picked up by traffic policeman. Police then discovered while checking his rec ords that Artson had accumulated 14 traffic citations since Dec. 5. Artson was sentenced to 30 days ill jail and fined $140. The Hawaii lieutenant uovcrnor said the Pacific Northwest a i r route now provides 18 per cent of all Hawaii visitors, against 13 per tent in 1851. "Diversification of Hawaii's economy requires maximum de velopment of our tourist market," he said. "We are investing mil lions of dollars in new hotels and other facilities, and we are depend ent in great part on air transpor tation to make these investments produce . . . "It seems axiomatic to me that with two carriers promoting tour ism out of the Pacific Northwest far creator development will be accomplished than if the service is left in the hands of one carrier."
