(Continued from Page 2) Wayne prepared venison, pheasant and trout in the oven. The finished product was enthusiastically re ceived. The primary food supply for the trip was emergency canned rations. After constructing shelters and preparing for the night, the men gathered around a campfire to help Colonel Williams celebrate his 43rd birthday. Roast pheasant was served in lieu of birthday cake and the celebration ended in a rousing rendition of "Happy Birth df.y." The survival trip was a small part of the 322nd's continuing air crew training program. A similar trip was held last September. "There is a survival kit attached to each of the F-lOIB's two seats," Lieutenant Wayne said. "Our pur pose was to teach the men to use the available equipment. I think everyone learned a lot and I feel our aircrews would be able to sur vive in the event of an emergen cy." Children Differ On idea Of Mother Holding A Job OREGON STATE COLLEGE A survey made by an Oregon State College professor of family life on the feeling students have or had about their mothers working out side the home shows widely- irixed reactions but with about 60 per cent voicing approval, Keys to a happy working-moth er home seem to be advance plan ning and understanding of the changes to come in family rou tine and in individual responsibili ties and recognition by the .chil dren of the benefits and problems involved, -according to Dr. Lester A. Kirkendall. Kirkendall has collected autobi ographical statements from stu dents in his family life classes for the past six years. While some students have expressed bitter dis appointments and resentment over their mothers working during the time they were in grade and high school, most point to the benefits received or the need for working and looked with favor on the situ ation. ' Attitude of and adjustment of the parents toward the mother working is obviously sensed by the children and reflected m their opin ions and feelings, Kirkendall said. Several noted that the parents dis agreed over the mother working and that it had created real fam ily problems. These disagreements were then 'reflected in disapprov ing attitudes on the part of the children. - - ' Having, the youngsters share more in family responsibilities while the mother was away was felt by a good-sized group to have brought a feeling of greater fam ily unity. Mafiy students in -this group said their college education had depended on the mother work ing. ' . Where 'working was seemingly used as an "excuse" for fleeing from housework, children report ed resentment and a feeling of being imposed upon when they were asked to do the same work For families where the mother is going to work in the future, Kirkendall has this advice. Expect and make changes in family routines; things can t go on the same way with the mother out of the household. Get prepared for the changes and anticipate what it's to mean to Dad's sched ule (he doubtless will need to take more home responsibility) and to the youngsters. There are problems involved, but also benefits and these should be understood. With more mothers going to work, it's a situation that needs plan ning, understanding, and coopera tion to be most rewarding and least troublesome, Kirkendall concludes. Seed Spuds Certified In 1959,' a total of 3.750.5 acres of seed potatoes were entered for certification. Out of this amount 3.103.5 acres passed field inspect ion. A small portion of this quant ity failed to meet requirements of greenhouse test.. A total of 1.408 acres were entered in Klamath County, and 1.0R7 acres met field rquirements. Netted Gems, with 457 acres passed, led in Klamath County acreage, closely followed by White Rose, with 395. Some in crease was noted in Kennebec, with Red La Soda, Red Pontiac and Sebago completing the list, field trial results are available at the County Agent's Office, but all of the greenhouse testing re sults have not yet been received.
