S, IflfiO Lad's Return Causes Ire To Magistrate NEW YORK (AP) - An angry magistrate Wednesday held 16- year-old David Campanella (or trial on a petty larceny charge saying the former baseball star's lepson deserves "whatever he gets." The boy was sent back to jail where he has been held since his Arrest Jan. 26. Magistrate James LoPiccollo was angered because the Cam pnnella youth was in court after his third arrest in less than year. When a grocer allegedly robbed by Campanella and two other Ne cro youths offered to drop his complaint, the magistrate would not allow it. "I have no pity for the Cam panella boy" he said. "He's been in and out of courts in a short space of time and should have learned his lesson. He has humil jated his family. He has violated his curfew." David Campanella is on proba tion in a case involving the bur glary of a Queens drugstore last spring. At the time of that bur g'ary he already had been ad judged a juvenile delinquent on charges growing out of a 3treet fight. The youth, son of Mrs. Hoy Campanella by a previous mar riage, is accused with Ronald Carnetl, IS, and lsadorc Kisher. 20, of stealing $40 worth of mer chandise from a Queens grocery Jan. 25. For six years he was with Arthur C, Munson, architect, in Los Angeles as head d'aftsman; for five years with Turner Con struction Company in Hawaii and Pacific Area as head of the architectural and engineer ing divisions of 300 million dollars worth of construction contracts, and owned Robert F. Starbuck Construction Company in Southern California for 10 years prior to moving to Klamath County about three years ago. The firm is now known as Morrison, Howard and Starbuck. AF Sheepishly Withdraws Manual For Enlisted Men WASHINGTON (AP) - The Air Force has sheepishly with drawn a nicely illustrated manual lulling enlisted men how to wash the general's dog, set his tea tiiblc, make drinks for his guests and shine his shoes. Jackson said it would be withdrawn, and a new directive would prohibit "assignment of enlisted personnel to duties which contribute only to the personal benefit of officers. But the subcommittee members made them squirm for awhile be fore they reached this stage. Rep. Frank J. Becker (R-NY) sarcastically quoted this from the manual "Your contribution to thei over-all mission of the Air force can be even more important than that of an aircrew member, a mechanic, or any other individual airman." If the manual had been written by a Communist, snorted Becucr, it couldn't have been better cal- ulated to destroy morale. "Answer the door properly andl invite the guests in," It said. "At times you will be called upon to prepare beverages such as cock, tails. Generally it is only neces, sary for you to know how to mix a few of the most popular ones." WBSWBM 4-H NEWS Marathon Fad Invades Game ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) The marathon craze has returned and this time it has invaded the fine old game of bridge. Four University of New Mexico students claimed a world record Wednesday of 75 hours and 5 min utes of continuous bridge playing. The four, Sam Gray Jr. of Santa Fe, N.M., and John Fink, Jim Brown and Terry Duffy of Al buquerque, said they broke the record of 72 hours set recently by foursome at Cambridge Univer sity in England. They played 687 hands at a table In a, downtown hotel lobby. Par enls and girl friends brought them food. Gray almost fell asleep at the (2-hour mark saying, "I don't re member how to play bridge." A quick shower and a dozen candy bars furnished a second wind. Gray grabbed the shower while he held the dummy hand. 4-11 CONFERENCE LAKEVIEW - Mary Lee Sco- ille, Mike Counts, Edward Sipp. and Neil Morse, 4-11 agent, will attend the 4-H conference at Sa lem, February 4, 5, and 6. Edward Sipp will not attend the conference, but is making the trip lor a personal interview as part of the requirements in entering contest which could be a trip to Washington, D.C. Edward will return home Friday, February 5, by bus. Mary Lee and Mike were awarded the trip based on their outstanding records in 4-11 work and scholastic standing over the past years. The group will return Saturday. Warsaw Powers Sign Compact MOSCOW (AP)-The eight War Saw powers signed a joint declara tion today in the ornate gold, green and white Catherine Room in the Kremlin Palace, but left to a later time announcement of Its contents. Moscow radio was expected to broadcast abroad the terms of the document. Present were representatives of four Eastern Communist states, Red China, North Viet Nam, North Korea and Mongolia. Trip To Algiers Halted For Now PARIS (AP) President Charles de Gaulle postponed his Algerian trip and began a sweeping round up today of ringleaders of the re volt against his government. Armed with near - dictatorial powers, he will preside over a pecial Cabinet session bore Fri day instead of going to North Af rica as planned. De Gaulle was reported plan ning a drastic shakcup of civilian and military leaders in Algeria in the first step to bring the uneasy French African territory back un der the firm control of Paris. Beck Suffers New Setback OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) Dave Beck, former president of the Teamsters Union took another setback Wednesday when the State Supreme Court upheld his conviction on a charge of stealing SI ,900 in proceeds from sale of a union-owned automobile. Beck's attorney, Charles S. Bur- dell, said in Seattle he will ask the court (or a rehearing. Beck. 65, said he had been con fidcnl of a reversal on grounds he did not get a fair trial. He was convicted in King County Su penor court Dec. 14. y., on a grand larceny charge, lie was sentenced to 15 years in the state penitentiary, hut has been free on bail. Sat. (API Three persons were injured, one cnti- ally, when a tornado, hidden in a heavy downpour, struck a plan tation area and demolished nine laborers' cottages. Five-year-old Barbara Benoit received internal injuries when the family dwelling was wrecked Wednesday. Her mother, 32, who was cooking supper at the time the tornado hit, had a back in jury, and her father, Newman Benoit, 38, was hospitalized with a fractured collar bone. A half dozen other persons were treated for minor injuries. Dorris Election Set April 12 uoiillls-AU city residents will vole at the city hall in the April 12 municipal election.
