"Avocado Cranheiry Salad" is
both colorful and rclreshiiiR. It's a
perfect salad choice for the holi-
ys. Cranberries make a piquant
flavor contrast to the delicately
avored avocado and the red and
reen color combination is a most
ppropriate one for festive meals.

from Port-
MERIT'S at 609 South Sixth Street, was a busy place last week when Mrs.
(shown here with Merit Smith watchinq her prepare a bakod dinner) came
land to demonstrate range cookery at the appliance store. Tappan's "Fabulous 400"
range was used. Note in the photograph the convenient cutting board, the two ovens
with full glass doors, cooking controls at eye-level and the four cooking units in a row.
When not in use, the cutting board and top units slip conveniently out of the way. Ac

COOKING SCHOOL
Klamath Falls' current pro
motion "Make Your Home Happi
er with a New Electric Appliance"
got an early start last week with
n two-day free cooking school at
Merit's, 609 South Sixth Street.
Through the courtesy of Lou
Johnson Company, Inc., Portland,
Mrs. Sally Heft, home demon
strator, demonstrated all sorts of
interesting dishes on one of the
new 40-inch Tappan electric ranges.
Every woman attending will be
ent one of the little recipe books
filled with new and fascinating
Ideas in cooking from the Tappan
firm.
The full Tappan line was demon
strated with all of its convenience
features.
Airs. Heft explained some of her
tricks of the trade.
"The way to keep the inside of
your shiny oven spotless and
gleaming," she said, "is to always
wipe . up the droplets of grease
while the oven is still warm. Stub
born spots may require washing a
little more thoroughly with h o t
water to which a little ammonia
has been added."
The ovens have removable seals
which can be taken off for
thorough washing with hot suds at
the sink.
Aluminum foil is a great oven
saver, Mrs. Helt says and proved
it in her demonstrations.
On hand to answer questions
from the interested audience about
the special features of the appli
anccs was E. C. "Sandy" Wes
tergren, assistant sales manager
for Lou Johnson Company, Inc
the Portland distributing firm.
All of the local appliance firms
are participating in the current
promotion which is co-sponsored
by the Herald and News and the
Cal-Ore Electrical League.
