Mo. to the Oregon Centennial Ex position, would like some pictures now. Mrs. Emma Galewood. a 71- year-old great-grandmother from Gallipolis. Ohio, said that al though she was besieged by ama teur photographers along the way. Ihey didn't give her any copies of the photographs. "They didn't even ask me. They just kept slicking cameras in my face," Mrs. Galewood told the Oregon Centennial Commission So the commission has asked those who took pictures of Mrs. Galewood along the way to send them in for her. A prize will be awarded for the best photograph "Henry's become quite an authority since he took up bird watching! He can distinguish them now by the sun suit they're wearing!" Passenger Service Drops, Reports Commerce Survey WASHINGTON UPI - The nation's railroads are dropping un profitable passenger trains as fast as they can. An Interstate Commerce Com mission (ICC) survey, showed to day that the railroads have dis continued 41 passengers trains since an administrative short cut was approved by Congress one year ago. . Idaho and Salt Lake City to Las Vegas, Nev. was sought by West Coast Airlines in a' route applica tion filed with the Civil Aeronau tics Board Monday. The company seeks permission for flights from- Boise via Elk and Ely, Nev. to Las Vegas and from Salt Lake via Provo, Utah and Ely to the resort city. The flights would provide the first di rect service from Inland Empire cities to Las Vegas. Daily round trip schedules are planned w 1 1 40-passenger F27 propjet trans ports. a warning by ICC examiner How ard Hosmer that inter-city passen ger train service would be dead by 1970 if railroads continued their current practices, ' The flood of discontinued trains followed approval of the 1958 Transportation Act which eliminated the previous regulatory red tape surrounding route abandonments. Under the act, a railroad must give 30-days notice of plans to abandon passenger trains. The ICC then has 20 days to block the pro posal by suspending the discon tinuance for four months pend ing an investigation. Previously, proposals to abandon passenger train service were han dled by less sympathetic state regulatory commissions. Now, if state commission fails to act or denies a discontinuance,, the railroad is free to petition the ICC traffic accident which caused the foot to become infected. Idaho Cowboy Garners Honors Bob A. Robinson, a cowboy from Rockland, Idaho, won all-around cowboy honors at the Prineville Rodeo over the weekend, and the first round of the Big Triangle Trophy contest. The award was presented by Charley Read of Klamath Falls Robinson will have his name in scribed, on the cup. His will be the first, since the trophy made its debut this year. If he wins the trophy three times, he will receive a big cash award. Each of the Big Triangle rodeo associations, Prineville, Klamath Falls and Eugene, adds $100 to the purse each year.
