Botulism Kills 3 Of Family IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP)' - Botulism, a rare lorm of food poisoning, killed another member of a family here Thursday. Kenneth Nelson, 4!i, Kansas City, Mo., was Ihe third member of his family to die since they ate from a jar of home-canned beets His daughter, Wanda, 15, and his steplather, Aaron Gruwell, 74 died shortly after the family was stricken last week. Nelson's wife, Naomi, 41, re mained in critical condition but hospital authorities said they noted some improvement. She was allowed to leave an iron lung Thursday. In its most severe form, botulism paralyzes the breathing muscles. Two other members of the fam ily, l.avicia Gruwell and Martha Nelson, 4, were reported improv ing at a hospital here. All were stricken while the Nelsons were visiting at the Gruwell farm. Mrs. Gruwell is Nelson's mother. Civic Interests here have .start ed a fund-raising drive to aid the surviving members of the family. It includes three Nelson children who didn't eat any of the pois oned beets.
