ALIBI
NEW YORK (AP) - Arthur
Camper, 42, identified by a grocer
as one of a pair who held him up
for $350 'two weeks ago, had
perfect alibi. He was in jail, await
ing sentence for auto theft. He
was cleared Monday of any con
section with the holdup.
WASHINGTON (UPI) Capt.
Roger Ghijs, braving storm,
calm, and a Potomac River
bridge too low for his mainmast,
has just brought the Belgian sail
ing ship "Mercator" across the
Atlantic bearing more bad news
about Russia.
The latest disquieting word is
that when it comes to ships under
sail, the Russian navy is fast
pulling out ahead of the world.
The United States isn't even try
ing to keep up, although Capt.
Ghijs is too diplomatic to say
anything about that.
Ghijs eased his 2110-foot three-
master barkentine into Pier 5

sel power. He had wanted to
come in under sail, for better ef
fect. "But 1 ran out of wind," he
explained.

completed a 12-week guided mis
sile electrical-equipment installa
tion and repair course July 10 at
the Army's engineer school, Fort
Belvoir, Virginia.
Moss entered the Army in De
cember and completed basic train
ing at Fort Ord. He was gradu
ated in 1958 from Klamath Union
High School. His parents live at
3840 Summers Lane.

SALEM (AP) - Gov. J. Hugo
Aronson of Montana notified Ore
gon Gov. Mark O. Hatfield Mon
day that Montana wants to take
part in discussions of the pro
posed' power intertie between the
Columbia Basin and California.
Oregon, Washington and Califor
nia have authorized a study of the
plan under which the Northwest
and California would exchange
surplus power. Montana and Ida
ho have been invited to take part.
Gov, Hatfield also said he has
asked Oregon Public Utilities
Commissioner Jonel C. Hill to
prepare a series of legal questions
to all states concerned. ,

boast one, two or even three sail
ing ships in their cadet training

sibly has been too concerned with

posted on what the enemy was
