Branch Offices Sell
Shakespearean Tickets
Oregon Shakespearean festival
patrons, again in 1959, may ar
range ticket reservations at branch
box offices in their home areas,
according to General Manager Wil
liam Patton. Agencies have been
'authorized lor 20 Oregon cities and
San Francisco.
Each branch box office main
tains a direct wire contact with
the festival's central box office in
Ashland. Playgoers in the agency
cities may thus secure instant res
ervations in the best available seat
ing for any performance. No serv
ice fee is assessed, but the patron
is required to pay a nominal
telephone toll charge, averaging in
to 15 cents per ticket.
Interest in the festival's new
J27S.00O stpge, plus many addition
al Centennial visitors, has result
ed in a current 63 per cent in
crease in advance ticket sales.
Theatergoers are urged to make
their arrangements as early as
possible.

and give the Soviet Union a sum
mit conference in the fall.
The foreign ministers of the
United Slates, Britain and France
are expected to put the proposal
to Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei1
Gromyko soon after the Big Four
conference resumes here Monday.
As outlined here, the plan con
tains only one change in previous
Western proposals. East and West
Germany would be given equal
representation on a subcommittee
to take preliminary steps toward
reunification of Germany.
Previously the West proposed a
subcommittee of 25 West Germans
and 10 from the Communist East,
because West Germany's popula
tion is more than three times that
of the East.
In return for this concession
Western officials think -the Soviets
might agree to freeze the situa
tion in Central Europe, including
Berlin.! But they are considerably
less than optimistic.
"It all depends on whether Pre
mier Khrushchev wants any kind
of settlement at all," said a high
ly placed Western official.
In addition to the freeze on the
Berlin situation, the other key
point in the plan is appointment
of a Big Four commission to work
on plans for reunification of Ger
many, the end of the Berlin oc
cupation and a mutual security
system in Central Europe.
The foreign ministers would set
no deadline for the commission
and the subcommittee to complete
their work. That would be left for
the heads of government at the
summit conference.
At the end of the agreed period,
another foreign ministers' meet
ing would be held to study the
reports of the commission and the
subcommittee.
"The virtue of the plan is that
it would let both sides get out of
