Study Plots Doublehead To Be Burned ALTURAS Joseph Thornton, su pervisor of Modoc National For est said that forest personnel of the Doublehead District, in cooper ation with the Pacific Southwest Forest . and Range Experiment Station, will burn under pre scribed conditions four 10-acre stu dy plots near Mears Crossing July 16. These prescribed burns are part of a study of methods of reseed ing bitterbrush and other impor tant browse species on depleted deer ranges. Several successful seedings have been made in the Mears area, Thornton stated. How ever, it is necessary to reduce the cost of preparing the site for plant ing. Properly used in a prescribed manner, fire is a likely tool for accomplishing this. Control lines have been con structed and the brush on two of the plots has been crushed to try and get high enough soil tempera tures to kill weed seeds. Mrs. Smalllield will be re membered as the former Ruby Smith, who was employed as cook at the Algoma Lumber Company Hotel in Fort Klamath during the company's logging operations in the vicinity. From California Mrs. F. J. Dan forth and sons, Lee and David, San Vsidro. California, are visiting in Fort Klamath with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Francis D. Brown, and other relatives. The Danforths are former Klamath Falls resi dents, and he is now a member of the U.S. Border Patrol on the California-Mexico border.
