The French rmy claimed corrsplele control iain today around the eastern Port city of Bone after crushing the largest rebel assault ever made on a big Algerian city. The rrbels' aim appeared to be psy chological rather than military. r French troops, planes and tanks urrounded the rebel band on the outskirts of Bone near the airport. 'A communique reported 31 re bels killed and IS captured during more than 12 hours of fighting Wednesday. The French reported (ix of their soldiers killed. Prisoners said the band had been dispatched as reinforcements to the Kahylie mountain area in central Algeria from nearby Tuni sia, where the rebels have their rhain training ground. The Algerian attackers were specially uniformed and equipped W!h automatic weapons.
