Four Killed In Police Clash TRIVANDRUM, India (API Four persons were killed in two clashes with police today as foes of Kerala state's Communist re gime tried to force it to resign by picketing schools and government offices. In both incidents police opened tire on crowds. Two of the fatalities were at Beli. a suburb of Trivandrum. said a government report, and two were at the Hulluvilla. In an earlier incident IS youths were injured inside a Roman Catholic school in a half-hour stone-throwing exchange with pro- Communists. Unollicial reports said scores had been injured in various other clashes. LIKES OLD SYSTEM f DEATH HOUR ADVANCED ?OSSINING, N.Y. UPI The ex ecution hour at Sing Sing 11 p.m. the last 43 years has been moved ug to 10 p.m.. it was announced Sunday. Authorities said the new hour would preclude disturbing toe governor late at night in an emergency, would be more con venient for witnesses and would enable fuller news coverage of executions. ATLANTA (UPI-You'll have a hard time convincing Georgia Gov. Ernest Vandiver that "mis sile mail" is faster than conven tional air mail. Vandiver received a letter from Jacksonville, Fla., Friday 96 hours after it was sent by Post master General Arthur Summer- field in a Regulus missile iired from a submarine to the Mayport, Fla., naval station. Jacksonville is only 350 miles from Atlanta less than two hours by air. German freighter Flavia, bound lor Hamburg. Among those rescued were 10 Americans, employes of the Amer ican Telephone 4 Telegraph Co. The cable ship, the 4.334-ton Ocean Layer, was bound lor France, stringing cable along the ocean bed. when a fierce blaze broke out in the engine room. Within 15 minutes of an SOS re porting the fire and asking for help, Capt. A. MacPherson Ross radioed that he, had been forced to order abandon ship. In the scramble to get away from the flame-swept hulk, two men were left aboard and for a while were believed to be lost. Spotted by lookouts aboard the Flavia, they were taken off in a small boat. There was no word that anyone had been injured. The sea - was calm. Hours after the rescue the Ocean Layer was still burning. A spokesman for the Ocean Lay er's owners said radio messages from Capt. New officers elected were Fred Dearborn, president; Benny Brown, vice president: Jimmy Brown, secretary: Ted Dearborn news reporter: Linda Fraser, song and yell leader. The meeting was adjourned to to go to Mrs. Velda Haley's where we looked at her garden and she gave us some plants. The second meeting of the Speedy Weeders was held at the home of the leader, Mrs. Grace Dearborn. Ted Dearborn led the pledge of allegiance. The leader passed out the story sheets and record books The members told what they were going to plant in their gardens The meeting was adjourned to play kick-ball. The Ocean Layer is a former German cargo ship taken as inze by the British at the end of World War II. It was converted into a cable ship at a cost of about $2,800,000. The Ocean Layer, owned by Submarine Cables Ltd. of London, left the Irish port of Cobh to work on the laving of a second Atlantic cable between the United States and France. The vessel was for merly a cargo ship launched in I FIRE MOPUP MEDFORD (AP) Some 80 men Saturday mopped up this southwest Oregon area's first big forest lire of the season. The blaze started Thursday and spread over some 400 acres of timber and brush. Forestry offi cials said they had not determined how the fire began. The af fliction causes the lymphatic sys tem to turn out abnormal lympho cytes which are launched in great numbers into the blood stream. The ailment usually attacks peo ple in their late teens or early twenties, aometunes. though, it hits young children and elderly people. Outbreaks occur annually on college campuses and at mili tary installations. It has a multitude of uncomfort able symptoms. Luckily, all of them seldom show up in one pa tient. They include sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, headache, fever as high as 103 degrees, and a tired run-down feeling that may last for weeks. Some patients develop skin rash es, chills, jaundice, an enlarged spleen and extremely swollen ton sils that hinder Swallowing. In ex treme cases, the heart, liver and! nervous system may be affected. The disease usually lasts from three to six weeks and is seldom tatal. Occasionally, though, it will produce deadly lung paralysis. Some pati?nts have died follow ing accidental falls which rup tured their swollen spleens. Doctors explain that no specific treatment has been developed foi the disease. Despite the close living conditions, the disease seldom spreads. College physicians report that students who catch the disease seldom pass it on to their roommates. But they explain that it seems to bounce back and forth between the men's and women's dormito ries. That's one reason that kiss ing is suspected as being the means of transmission. A Fnrt Benning. Ga., physician. Col. R. J. Hoagland, interviewed tients and found that all but two had engaged in kissing about a month before catching the ailment. Other doctors, however, serious ly doubt that kissing is respon sible. One is National Institutes of Health virologist Dr. Lawrence Kilham. who conducted five yeara infectious mononucleosis re search during World War II and the late 1940 s. His theory is that infectious mononucleosis may be a reaction that the body develops to other internal infections. "I think infectious mononucleos is is one of the world's most baffling and fascinating diseases." Dr. Kilham declares. "It's amaz ing that no one can find out what causes it.
