AP An undergraduate affectionately called K by his classmates sets his bachelor of arts degree Thursday at Harvard College's 3U8th com- menceniecnt. "K's" formal title is His Hish- ness the Asa Khan IV, spiritual leader of some 20 million Lsniaili Moslems. It is in his capacity as Imam of the Middle East sect that he has donated to Harvard $50,000 to establish a 10-year program ot scholarships, preferably for stu dents of his faith. : To Aga Khan's gift, Harvard is expected to put in another 000 to make a scholarship fund of $100,000 available in the next decade for students from Pakis tan, India, the United Arab Re public, Iraq, Saudi Arabia. Leba non, Jordan, Iran, East Africa, in cluding Kenya, Tanganyika, Ugan da and Zanzibar. The Aga Khan, 22. who succeed ed his late grandfather Aga Khan III as Ismaili Moslem leader while a sophomore' at Harvard, an nounced the scholarship plan in a formal statement distributed by the college news service. He said he was "particularly Impressed" by Harvard's pro gram of studies of Middle East ern and Asian affairs. He said more students from these regions should be able to take advantage of "Harvard's accumulated stores of knowledge." "I approached the university authorities to see if I could help in any way and found that they have long wanted to make it pos sible for more students from Asia French Decision Creates Stir LONDON (API France's re ported decision to bar U.S. stock piles of atomic bombs from French soil created a storm to day in the Atlantic Congress, ap proaching the climax of its six-day London meeting. Reaction inside delegations to the congress was split. The Atlantic Congress is an un official assembly of some 650 lead ing citizens from the North Atlan tic Alliance countries. Sen. Estes Kefauver (D-TennV a member of the 130-member U.S. delegation, said the French deci sion called for delicate negotia tions with the British . and the French. and Africa to come to Harvard," he said, in explaining his gift. The program calls for an aver age scholarship of between $2,000 and $2,500 a year. Between 40 and 50 scholarships will be awarded in the 10-year period. Of the Aga Khan as an under graduate, Dean John V. Monroe declared he "has shown eager in telligence, seriousness of purpose and disciplined hard work in the classroom, as well as sportsman ship, humor and good team play on the soccer field." Aga Khan was a member of the Harvard varsity soccer team. Red Report May Be True, Says Urey SAN DIEGO (UPI)-Nobel prize winner Dr. Harold Urey, discover er of heavy hydrogen, said Tues day night there is a "good possi bility that a Russian report of an eruption on the moon is true Urey, professor at large of the University of California at La Jolla, said that within a few days of the Soviet observation late last year Convair physicist H. F. Poppendiek of San Diego made a similar sighting. Scientists said the eruption might have been water heated by radioactivity in the moon's cen ter and spewed into the airless sky. Because there was no air, Urey said, the -water probably was spouted far out into .space. He iiKeneo me eruption 10 me acuon of Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park. "I think there Is a pretty good possibility that Russia's Kosaroff might have seen a gaseous erup tion on the moon," Urey said. The famous scientist, speaking before the American Rocket So ciety, said that the United States is not doing enough in the inves tigation of meteorites. "They I meteorites) come to us free of charge." he said. "Yet proper chemical analysis has not been made in many cases. Urey theorized . that some of the meteorites might come from the moon. He said they possibly pro vided a valuable source of infor mation about the moon's surface. How did meteorites get from the moon to the earth? Urey sug gested .that chunks of the moon could have been knocked off by dark comets unseen by man be cause they have no light. He declined to predict when man might reach the moon, but he said instruments should be landed on it in the next lew years. ACTOR DIES LONDON (API Actor Sonny Hale, 57, a British stage and screen favorite for more than 25 years, died today of a throat in fection. The star was admitted to the hospital last Thursday. It was the day on which the play "The French Mistress", which he wrote and in which he starred, was to have opened in London. His sister is musical comedy star Binnie Hale.
