Six Perish In Oregon Over Holiday ; By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS " Oreson paused over the week end to honor its dead. By the lime the Memorial Oav holiday ended, the weekend death toll Stood at six. . There was an additional grim fiote to the holiday as the bodies of two persons were recovered who perished in earlier accidents. At Depoe Bay, the Coast Guard Sunday recovered the body or Julian Sloan. 10, Beaverton, who flrowned with Margaret Gray, 37, Portland, after they set out for beach stroll May 8. The Coast Guard also recovered the body of Norman Lewis Baker. 17, Waldnort, Sunday from a little lake just north of Waldport. i The high school student vanish cd after going for a walk May 22. As fair weather swelled the Msh of traffic Sunday, the first auto fatalities of the weekend were reported. Robert Stewart, 3, was struck nd killed by a car near his Sa lorn home. Gary Kdward Strecter. 16, Hood River, also perished in a traffic accident. He died when a car in which he was riding hit a utility ole and overturned near Hood filter. ' Earlier, on Saturday, the Coast Guard found a boat washed up on the shore near Waldport. Authorities said the occupants of the boat, John Clark. 47, and his brother, Kenneth Clark, 50. both of Scio, apparently drowned. Two olher men also lost their lives in Saturday mishaps. Elmer Wickman, 65. died in an apartment fire in Portland and William Farmer, 57, Springfield, suffered a fatal heart attack on a holiday hike in the. Willamette Pass area. Two More Firms Sign Contracts PORTLAND lAPi Two more hie Pacific Northwest lumher firms reached agreement Friday on contracts with the Inter national Woodworkers of America They are the Simpson Logging Co. and the International Paper Co., each of which employs about l.soo 1WA memhers. These two agreements brought to about K3.000 the number of men covered by new pacts be tween management and the IWA and the Lumher and Sawmill Workers. The agreements generally pro vide for benefits of about 20' cents an hour over a two-year period. Nikita Threatens West With Total Destruction LONDON (AP Soviet Premier Nikila Khrushchev has again cou pled a threat qf total destruction for the West in the event of war with a prediction of capitalism's inevitable defeat. In speech in the Albanian town of Vlore, Khrushchev warned Sunday night that any attack on the Soviet bloc would be "tanta mount to suicide." He said the West's "reckless" policies wen- hastening "the lime when man kind will be able to bury capital ism deeply." No matter how much aging capitalism is trying to prolong it.-, existence, it is doomed because it will be replaced by the new vic torious system communism.'' Khrushchev declared. The witnesses, live Christian missionaries who fled from the Reds, detailed to the House Com mittee on Un-American Activities alleged atrocities rivaling those of the Nazis. The Rev. Tsin-Tsai Liu, now pastor of a Baptist church in Tai pei, Formosa, said Chinese Chris tians are sent lo "self-confessing" classes to be "re-educated" by the Communists. If the classes are not success- ful, he said, "physical force is used. "They stop the noses of the peo ple and pour water into their mouths," Liu said. "Every time the person breathes, he swallows water. Another witness, the Rev. Sam uel W. S Cheng, now a church mission leader on Formosa, said at best" the Communists preach 'modernism" in Christianity. "At the worst," he said, "they substitute Lenin the Father.
