The flat-topped, square tided jart stack compactly and there are tiiet convenient to use for any size family or party. GREEN OLIVES The Klamath Basin country is great olive-eating area. There are probably more Wyan dotte ripe olives, both pitted and imputed, sold in the Klamath Ba sin than any other place in Ore gon. . Libby's green olives are a com panion food. Green olives, of course, are what the name implies. The fruit has not been permitted to ripen before being processed for consumption. Bill Riley, now with Fewel Comer brokerage company, Port land, is representing Libby's in this area and he brought in the live jars of green olives shown Jiere. The Spanish olives are import ed and packed by Libby's in the United states. You will not find imported ripe olives on the market because olives shipped in from Spain and other southern countries are picked green. According to the department of agriculture, olives cannot be allowed to ripen in the southern European countries be cause of the fruit fly which at tacks the fruit as it ripens, mak ing it unfit for packing. Because the green olives are still hard, the fruit fly leaves them alone. ROMAN'S AND GREEKS LIKED PICKLES Pliny's writing mentions spiced and preserved cucumbers, in oth er words, pickles. The Emperor Tiberius ate pickles daily. Pickles were a must for Julius Caesar and his legions. And the Greeks had a good word for them, too.
