PAGE 5 A BASIN BRIEFS Radio Klamath Basin Amateurl Radio Association will start a new free code class Tuesday evening at the Klamath Fairgrounds Club house. Meetings will continue each Tuesday from 7 until 9 p.m. This class has many women applicants, but men are invited to come. In Oakland Mrs. Gladys Rob bers, owner of the Hotel Modoc in Alturas. was on a business trip in Oakland last week. From Bed Bluff Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sumpter of Red Bluff spent two days visiting friends and rel atives in Yrcka and Fort Jones. Vacation Mr. and Mrs. 0. G. Wayne of Fort Jones are vaca tioning at Lake Shore.' They ex pect to return home .about May 14 when they will stay for a few days before returning to the Shasta Lake area. Grandson Mrs. Ruby Brown of Langell Valley received word that her grandson Alan Johnson, who has been seriously ill in Arabia where he was stationed in the Army, is being sent to Fort Bel voir, Virginia for more medical care. He hopes to get leave and come home soon. Moved Mr. and Mrs. Walter Russell and family have moved from Langell Valley, where they have lived for several years, to Merrill. Visitors last weekend in Langell Valley to see his son, LeRoy Biel r, were Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Biel- Klamath Man Promoted A former' Klamath Falls man, Wendell Currier, has been promot ed to lieutenant colonel and chief of air training for the 5th Bomber fequadron, Travis Air Force Base. Word of his promotion was received by his mother, Mrs. Nina Crawford of this city. A sister, Mrs. Alexander Lull, also lives in this city. Lt. Col. Currier will be remetn bcred as pilot of the huge B-36 bomber which was flown to Klam ath Falls last ye for the 1958 Armed Forces Day. He will be tranferred in August to Beale Air I orce Base. The officer is a graduate of Klamath Union High School, class of 1940. He joined the Oregon Na tional Guard in 1937 and was a second lieutenant when he trans ferrcd to the Air Force in Novem ber before Pearl Harbor. He served overseas in India, helped build the Burma Road and served as a pilot on transport duty flying the IBC Hump with only side arms as a weapon. When war was declared in Korea Lt. Col. Currier was with the first bomber group to leave Spokane for tne conllict. Alien Exhibit To Be Seen PORTLAND (API The Oregon Centennial Commission Monday received its first major foreign exhibit for this summer s centen nial exposition. Heard that Wayne Dailard, pro ducer of exposition shdws, is at tempting to hook either the Law rence Welk show or the Russian Folk Dancers. Approved the proposal of the Pinkerton National .Detective Agency to furnish guards at the exposition at a cost of $1.95 an hour. or of Waldport. Attending funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Davison of Bonanza on' -May 8 were Mr. and Mrs. John Fralick and George Custer, Dan and Bill, all of Salem; Richard Custer of Redding; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Custer of Coquille; Bud La- Barge of Prospect; Jane Smith of San Francisco; Steve Custer of Reno and Dennis Smith of Med- ford. Mrs. Davison was the wife of Bob Davison and a long time resi dent of Bonanza. Visiting in Malin over Ihe week end at the Robert Holl home were Mr. and Mrs. Harmond Loveness of Medford, former Malin resi dents. Mrs. Holl's mother, Mrs. S. E. Loveness of Orland. Calilor-" nia is also visiting the Holl's and her son, Loyal Loveness and his family. Livine in the Malin area again are Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Loveness. Loveness has just returned from his tour of duty in the Army. Being Welcomed to Malin again are Mr. and Mrs. Elzie Roberts who are moving back to Malin aft er residing in Medford for the last few years. Card Party There will be a benefit card party at the parish hall in Langell Valley on Satur day, May 16. at 8 p.m., given by the guild of St. Barnabas Church. Bridge and pinochle will be played. Hostesses are Mrs. Martin Gift and Mrs. Ernest Graves. Garden Club Tulelake Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, May 19. at the home of Mrs. Chet Main. Mrs. Pat McGinlcy and Mrs. Ted r ish will be co-hostesses. A guest speaker from Klamath Falls will demonstrate dining table arrange ments. Roll call will be answered by naming a May flower. Brownie Ceremony The court of awards and fly-up ceremony for the Newell Brownies and Girl Scouts will be held on Monday, May 18, at 3 p.m. at the school. Vacation Church School for the Malin - Prcsbvterian Community Church is scheduled to start on June 8 with Mrs. Lee Rebcr in charge. Anyone interested in help ing is asked to contact Mrs. Reber. They returned for a Mothers Day dinner at the home of their dauchter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Eslel Allison of Newell. Doug ie Osborne was also a dinner guest. Moved Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rey nolds moved over the' weekend to the former Gresham ranch, which they recently purchased.
