" i i f 11' iTaylor-Fisher, Nuptials Slated Today In Vegas All-Out Campaign Slated As 1959 Poppy Drive Set May 22-24 have been dosisnated as Poppy Days in Klamalh Falls and throughout the United Slates. Elizabeth Petersteiner. poppy day chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary, announces that there would be an all-out effort to see that everyone will wear a poppy this year in "remembrance." Vol unteer workers for the auxiliary will be on the streets both days. They will carry the veteran made crepe paper poppy. These small red flowers here in Oregon are made in veterans hospitals in Portland and Mcdford. The veterans make the small blossoms of crepe paper, with wire stems as near as possible like the wild poppies that grew on the bat tlefields and in the cemeteries of Western Europe. The making of the poppies by veterans, is a therapy benefit as well as giving the men an oppor tunity to earn money to assist Iheir families and themselves. In the hospitals, work is done in beds, and wheelchairs, arranged lor By the auxiliary. The veterans are the only paid workers in the poppy program, women who sell the poppies arc not paid. The en lire amount collected on Poppy Days, after the veterans are paid, goes into funds which support le gion and auxiliary activities for disabled veterans and child wel fare. The memorial flower which ori ginated in commemoration of war dead lollowing World War I, now is also commemorating those who gave their lives in World War II and the Korean War. They are also flowers of hope for the living. 0HITHDAY CELEBRATED FORT JONES The G G Bridge Club recently celebrated its 27th year of organization at a luncheon at the Chicken Farm restaurant in Etna. Eddie will go before Judge David Zenoff at approximately 2 p.m. PDT. He will charge his wile, actress Debbie Reynolds with mental cruelly the tradi tional Hollywood grounds for di vorce. Debbie herself used it to get a California interlocutory de cree last February from Fisher. At that time. Miss Reynolds said tersely, my husband has be come interested in another wom an," a classic of understatement in view of the headlines that pre ceded the breakup of what was once considered an idyllic marriage. Liz Taylor will not be present for the divorce hearing, which is expected to take 10 minutes or less, barring last-minute hitches. If the divorce is granted, the raven-haired actress will . join Fisher across the hall of the courthouse where they will take out a marriage license. A small army of reporters and photographers will record the events for posterity. For the ceremony, Fisher will get into his blue suit and Liz into her new moss-green chitfon dress which movie stylist Jean Louis whipped up specially for the wed ding. The wedding is tentatively scheduled for someiime after 3 p.m. PDT at Temple Belh Sho- lorn. Rabbi Max Nussbaum. the Los Angeles rabbi who rccmily converted Miss Taylor to Juda ism. will perform the double-ring Kelorm rites. He will be assisted by Rabbi Benard Cohen of Las Vegas. Ne vada law requires- that all wed ding rites must be performed by ?. clergyman with a local congregation. After the ceremony, which is expected to take 10 minutes, the couple will hold a nrws conference and pose for pictures. Only last year he said, "as long as there are sick and injured peo ple and kids who need help, I II play benefits. " Now he Inmsoll is too sick to lend a helping hand. 'From now on I'll be playing long-term Bob Hope benefit. he gagged. Hope's quips are few and not given with his old eye-rolling ras-1 cahty. He s quieter now. Less brash. His off-screen personalily has changed. For most of his ca reer he kept up a running patter both in front of the cameras and among his friends when he wasn't working. All that has changed. He is thoughtfully resentful of not being able to dash around the country for benefits. "I guess that bolhers me more than anything else," he said seri ously. "I've always enioyed perform ing, but most of alt when I knew it was for a good (cause. "Right now I'm reserving Judg ment on my activities for the next year or two. During the next few months I'm taking time out to see how I feel. Lord knows. I don't have lo work. The only fun I get out of life is the way I gear myself. This readjustment isn t as bad as I thought it might be." Pleased with the critical recep tion of his new movie, "Alias Jesse James," it may be a long time bctore Bob makes another picture. He refuses to start a project unless he knows he can jump in wilh all cylinders perking. He had planned lo film "Somcdays It's Feathers" this summer, hut the comedy has been postponed indef initely. The comedian propped his feet up on a chair during a rehearsal break for his last TV show of the season. "This year I put together eight television shows, and guested on quite a few others." he said. Next season I II only do six. "I guess I knew this health thing was coming on for quite some time, bo did some of my lnends. "When Y. He flew in from a movie location in Spain especially for the chore. Mrs Howard Taylor, wife of Liz' broth er, will stand up for the bride. Only a handful of close friends and business associates will at tend the private rites. Both Ed die's and Liz' parents will be there, along with Benajmin Thau, boss at MGM, Liz' home studio. Eddie Cantor, who discovered Fisher, also has been invited. There has been much public re action locally against the quick divorce and marriage plans, since it has focused international atten tion on Nevada's quickie divorce law. Fisher, who closed Monday night a! the Tropicana Hotel here, ful filled his six-week legal residence while singing at the hotel. . One local newspaper ran an ed itorial two days running, suggest ing it might he a good thing for N'evada if the' divorce were de nied. -: Fisher bought a $S8,ooo noma from the Desert Inn Country Club as a wedding present for Miss Taylor.
