They also visited Roy Leake Jr., who was in Red Bluff from Chico State Col lege, and Jack Fickert from -Hugh- son. . , Leave Pvt. William A. Mittan, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Mittan of Fort Jones, is home on a to day leave from Fort Ord. French, 43, of 183K Lowell Street, Klamath Falls, is a skipper of a Navy de stroyer, the Strickland, whose 161 officers and crewmen have racked up a total of 4,143 years ip the Navy. The commander, an old salt, has contributed more than his share of the total. He holds 13 buttle stars. Since the war he ha served as executive officer aboard the destroyer O'Bannon, has served two tours of staff duty and has attended Line School. The Strickland, a radar picket ship, has seen much duty since it was commissioned in 1944. She lias a slogan. "24 in and 24 out." meaning 24 days in port and 24 days of picket duty. Lt. Cmdr. French and his wife, Geraldine and their two sons live, currently, at Honolulu where the Strickland is based. . KLAMATH FALLS SKIPPER. Lt. Cmdr. Dean M. Institute Lauds J-M Pupils To Run City Of Malin MALIN Student city govern ment day in Malin. with all the city offices being filled by Malin High School students, was held recently. In an election held at the high school-. Ed Stastny was elected mayor; Randy Miller, treasurer; Nancy O'Riley. recorder: Stan Pe- trasek, marshal; and Mafcia Ken yon, David DeMerritt, Don Stast ny.. Rick Iluan and Karen Rajtuis, council members. . A city council meeting was held Wednesday evening at the fire hall with the senior city council also present. The student city of ficials recommended several items of city interest and made recom mendations to the senior city coun cil. They recommended that the numbering of houses in the city of Malin be completed; that the Malin sewer system be inspect ed; that markers be placed along the runways of the Malm airport to insure better visibility and tbat barrels at the airport be picked up; that an annual spring clean up day be sponsored by the city council. , Johns-Manville has been listed among the most "excellently man aged" companies in the United States, Canada and Europe during 1958 by the American Institute of Management, according to word received by W H. Graham, local J-M spokesman. Service to custo mers and benems to employes rank high among the 10 evalua tion factors considered in making these certifications, Mr. Graham said. Thousands of companies were analyzed by the American Insti tute of Management ot New YorK, a non-nrofit research and educa tional organization devoted to the study and improvement of corpor ate organization and management Out of the many thousand com panies studied only 502 were deemed qualified for AIM ccrtifi cation as excellently managed. The purpose of the certification awards, according to Jackson Mar- tindcll. chairman of the board of the institute, is to give public recognition to companies whose managements are doing most to increase productivity, with ac companying benefits to employes, customers, shareholders, plant com munities and the economy as a whole. The institute's evaluation system is based on a possible 10,000 points. All corporations in the list of 502 award winners for 1958 must have scored at least 7,500 points in order to qualify as "excellently managed, Martindcll said. The 10 factors employed in au diting a company's management, Martindell explained, include: Service to customers, benefits to employes and stockholders, econo mic function, corporate structure, health of earnings, directorate analysis, research and develop ment, fiscal policies, production efficiency, sales vigor and execu tive evaluation.
