Council chairmen, Mary Cather ine Powell, as presiding officer, introduced Bonnie Wilson of Med ford as toastmistress. She in turn Introduced the speakers. Margaret Davies, member of Ewauna Toastmistress Club, placed first in the speech contest. Mar garet Ness of Medtord will be the alternate speaker. Mrs. Davies will compete in the speech contest to be held at the regional con ference in Bellingham, Washing ton, May 1, 2 and 3. The winner of that "speak-off" will compete at the International Con tention to be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Honored guest of the day was Lou Du Bois, supervisor of the Northwest Region. Council No. 4 Is iust one of the 11 councils under tier supervision. She has recently returned from a three-week visit with the Toastmistress clubs in Alaska. She gave an enlightening talk about the other 50 per cent of Toastmistress work Leadership Training. Recognition was given the Ewau na Club for their "Club of the Vear Contest" entry. BONANZA REBEKAHS BONANZA-Fraternity Rebekah Lodge 106 of Bonanza met on Mon day night, April 6, for their regu lar meeting. Noble Grand Esther Fernlund presided. District Deputy President Eva Roberts escorted Marcene Holt, to the chair of the noble grand where she was pre iented a past noble grand's pin in recognition of her office as color bearer of the Rebekah Assembly of Oregon. Gertie Dick reported that the card party held on Saturday. April 4, was very successful. Marcene Holt and Eva Roberts arc making plans to attend the Rebek ah Assembly to be held in Rose burg in June. Hom er DeLamater and worthy matron Yreka Rebekahs Hold Initiation YREKA The initiation of four new members into Hope Rebekah Lodge, No. S3, was the highpoim of the recent meeting of the or ganization, held in the Odd Fel lows Hall, with Mrs. Florence Fos ter, noble grand conducting the session. Mrs. Frances Cunningham, Mrs. Velma Dodson, Mrs. Reida Stcin- hauer and Mrs. Cora Taltman arc the four new members initiated during the impressive ceremony with Mrs. Sylvia Thomason as roll captain for the event. Mrs. Joanne Wendland was the soloist, and Mrs. Cora Heath, musician, j During the business session. members heard a letter from Mrs. Mary Newcastle, secretary of the Rebekah Assembly, rela tive to the 69th annual session of the Rebekah Assembly, which will convene during the week of May 18 to May 23, in the Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, Cali fornia. Registration of delegates will be at the Layfette Hotel on May 17. Those elected as dele gates from the Yreka Lodge are Mrs. June Ager, Mrs. Lucile Bu- ker, Mrs. Clara Henderson and Mrs, Mae Howard. Following the adjournment of the meeting, members gathered in the banquet room for refreshments served buffet style from a table that carried the Easter theme. Program chairman Mrs. Shirley Peters, showed movie of the Tournament of Roses Parade, held last January 1, in Pasadena. Refreshment committee for the evening were Mrs. Evelyn Wing- worth, Mrs, Berneice Meek, Mrs. Beatrice Sorth and Mrs. Joanne Wendland. of Aloha Chapter, Order of East ern Star, Gwen Pearson. A very clever reading, "The Unicorn," was given by Sara Wil liams, bethel librarian. Past Honored Queen Ruth Deh linger presented a gift from Coie and Basil Brown to Honored Queen Becky Short for her perfect at tendance as a charter member of the bethel. Other charter mem bers honored were Ann Taylor, Linda Bliss, Ruth Dehlinger, Mary Swisher and Maureen Campbell. Gordon Barnard, brother of Coie Brown, presented the bethel with a beautiful hand made bulletin board and a bethel emblem.
