Mrs. John Selfridge of Wichita, Kansas chairman, stuck with the job despite the dislraction result ing from the mistake. She will preside at the committee meeting here. The confusion originated in New York, where volunteer workers mailed the wrong batch ot letters liom national headquarters of the American Mothers Committee. Mrs. Aileen Kogarty. national director of the organization which elects the national Mother ol the Year Irom slate winners, said there were two batches of form letters to be mailed. One, address ed to "Dear Member, was an invitation to the national conven tion in Now York May 4-8. The other, addressed to "Dear State Mother." was to be sent after 39 stales chose Iheir winners. The volunteers inadvertently mixed the letters in mailing in vitations to Kansas members. The mistake became known Sun dav after two Kansas women dis closed they had received the "stale mother" letter. Mrs. Nellie Kiueger of Washing tun, Kan.. Ihoughl her letter was genuine. Her town took steps to honor her. While Ihe embarrassed commit tec was trying to explain to Mrs. Kriimer that the choice hadn t been made.
