SUNDAY, MARCH 22. PACE A PTA Hosts Variety Show ETNA The Spring Variety Show, sponsored by the Etna Par ent Teacher Asociation and di rected by Thurnace York, was held at the higtv school. Frank Jackson, master of cere monies, entertained with stories nd jokes between acts. ' An introductory piece was played by the Ktna High School band followed by Kathy Mulhn playing two original compositions at the piano. The first skit of the show, en titled "Forgetful" was enacted by Scott Valley Grange members. Helen Lewis, Alpha Hayes. Alvin Lewis and Frank Hayes Next was a song. "My Cheatin Heart," lung by Bob Golder, impersonat ing Flvis Presley. 1'nder the direction of Lawrence Burcell. the Quartz Valley 4-H Ckih was represenled by Janice Birdwell, Boh Colder, Roberta Hayden, Annette Hayden. Tony Hayden. George Hahn, K r n e s t Burton and Cathy Kastlick doing a souare dance. "Hello. Ynung Ixivers" was sung by Kenee Dunaway followed by an act, "Stylish Surprise" with hnv. as models and girls as nn ratnrs put on by the Fort Jones sixth grade. Members. Sadie Starr, Doris JlckjQB, Eleanor Lewil and Katy McMillan, of the Ktna (ira Re- hek.'ih Lodge, entertained with skit. "Borrowing Bessie." The men's quartet with Claude Cassady. Forrest Gray. Tom Cloyd and Law Hahn. representing a hnrher shop quartet sang two BonfB. Miss Sue's dance class was rep resented by Sharon Deppen. Marv Lee Bullinger. Mary Lou Hayden. Candace Parker, and Sharon Hjer tager dancing two dances, "Strut in Style" and "Paddlin' Madaline Home." Two accordion solos were played by Larry wells, preceding a skit and square given hv ihe Native Daughter's Iwige with Mary Roff Helen Lincoln. Barbara Cross Barbara Duffv, Thrlma McNeil Katie Berthelsen. Shirley Gilmore and Dorothy Haydon participating A short play "Love Will Tri- nmph," enacted hv Patty Rich Nancy Mathews. Ron Owens. Tom my Hayden. Sh;irnn Young reader and I,orona Dillman. sound effects for the Etna 4-H Club. Alice Berry gave a monologue, "My Sister Eileen " The Girl's Quintet, El Karen Kays. Virginia Bullinger. Sharon Young. Mary Lee Bullinger and Mary Ann Hur lnnan accompanied hy Sharon Ynung at the piano sang "Melody P'Amour." With guitar accom paniment, Ken and Jody Porter sang "The Crickets." Minor Cross and Frank Jackson, sang "Black face." Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hielt and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph van Komen. fornvng a quartet sang "Oh. How Great is God's Love." Tulelake School Principal Reviews Building Program Tl'LKLAKK E. L. Coyner, prin cipal of the Tulelake Joint Union High School, has released a re new of the high school building program no completed, and an explanation of the methods of financing. Acceptance of the new shop build ing and installation of hleachers marks the end of a three year period of change and adjustment since tne high scnool began operat ing as a single unit under one roof. During the construction peri od two plants were maintained, students heme moved between the old and new buildings for various classes. Coyner stated that prior to sep aration from the Siskivou Joint I nion High School District, the e:ght classroom unit was built at cost of S2.',,6,noo. This unit was paid for with cash from money collected on the $1.38 tax by Sis kiyou Joint I'nion High School. With the rre;iMon of the new Tulelake Joint Hich School Dis trict, the old levy of $1 2.S auto matically reverted to the stare maximum of 7S cents. It will re main at this level until changed by the voters. One of the first mm of the new district was to start action to com plete the building. Part of the groundwork had been completed before withdrawal from the Sis kiyou district. Application. Coyner said, was not mad for a,id from the state build ing fund since allowable footage, to qualify under the state aid pro gram, was far below the space necessarv for the anticipated en rollment a Tutelar'?. Further, the delay in time and conformity to state building plans made state aid questionable for the district. To carry through the building program, the board agreed to sub mit a bond election to the voters calling for iWMO.000. This sum was the maximum that could be raised inder the five peY cent of assessed valuatioivUmitation. Building plans in line with the stipulated amount were prepared by the arch;'ec. but it was later dttermined that available funds would be some $V).uoo short of cov ering the complete building pro gram. Temporary elimination of the .hop unit from the plans permit ted completion of the remaining units last year. Since the district vas bonded to rapacity and since it was not eligible for ata'e aid. after completion of the original units, an- at'empt to finance a shop building met with repeated disappointments. Plans were revised The bo.ird fi nally decided to horror from the Siskiyou County Serv ce fund, an amount large enough to complete Ihe entire building program.
