OREGON Park Department Chief Submits Report For 1958 A report for the year 1958 as fubmitted by Superintendent Bob Bonney to members of the Park and Recreation Department Board, at their regular February meet ing The report gave i picture of the many activities of a department which administers 20 different properties and a number of recre ation programs It listed 35 different administra tive considerations lor the year 1958. and 26 major items on a program report. Thirteen new ac tivities for 1958 were enumerated. These considerations and activ ities come to the attention of the public as they occur. As an exam ple of the type of items covered, the 1959 objectives might be cited. Index administrative considera tions these are: 1. Reappraise all phases of de partment operation. 2. Develop master plan. S. Establish written policy. 4. Evaluate unfinished business f 1958. and plan course of action. 5. Long-range planning. 6. Coordination with Kingsley Field i Base-Community Council'. 7. Develop brochure of commu nity service projects and distri bute to all community organi sations. 8. Encourage gifts and bequests. Of more interest to 'he general public, no doubt, would be these program objectives for 1959: Evaluate and appraise summer playground program Implement youth physical fit ness emphasis within framework of present sports and athletic pro gram. Day camp program at Moore Park: 1 emphasize outdoor liv ing, nature study and conservation in addition to utilizing present sports facilities: 2 invite conser vation, forest and wildlife, author' ties to present educational sessions at elementary age level 3 1 ex plore possibility of utilizing school bus for transportation Develop schedule for skin and breathing - apparatus diving-at swim pool. Explore possibilities of Golden Ase organization. . Develop fixed schedule for ten nis instruction at Moore Park. Organize program of training for summer staff planned staff meet ings, workshops, possible participa tion in OSC leadership training workshop. Encourage greater volunteer leadership: mothers to supervise wading pools: neighborhood inter' est in program planning. The deficiencies under which the department labors were cited as follows 1. No long-range development program. 2. Inadequate full-time staff. 3. No community recreation cen ter. 4. No adult program. 5. No cultural program. 6. No golden age program. 7. No formal teen-age program. 8. No consideration for future development of municipal golf course 9. Budget of approximately $2.70 per capita is inadequate. In addition to a maintenance and development section, dealing with 1958 and projects for 19.19. the re port included a statement of esti mated attendance at its various facilities in 1958. The grand total Music Series Set March 2 The renewal of memberships for the 1959-60 Community Concert Se ries will begin on March 2. the date of this year's final concert, it was announced by Andrew Loney Jr., president of the association All workers in the membership drive are urged to contact Mrs. George Kovich, membership chairman, sometime this week. Authorized purchase of frames for the construction of 20 new pic nic tables. Agreed to invite the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts. Camp Fire Girls, YMCA. Basin Boaters and Klam ath Sportsmen to serve on a com mittee headed by the Klamath Ar chers which is seeking to construct a multiple-use building near the archery range at Moore Park. Fa vell was named to represent the Accepted a recommendation from the citv manacer that street light fixtures be installed on three existing poles at Moore Park. Approved Bonney's proposed summer program and authorized him to study the possibility ot us ing school buses for transportation to department-sponsored activities. KU Musicians Slate Benefit Klamath Union High School's Symphony Orchestra assisted by the a cappella choir will appear in benelit concert Friday. February 27. at 8 p.m.. at Mills Auditorium Funds from the concert will help finance appearance of the young musicians at Pacific university Forest Grove. Queen Anne High School, Seattle and the Northwest Convention of Music Educators, Seattle, in early March. Admission to the concert li 50 cents. Soloists for the choir will be Lynn Ferrell and Charlton Currin. The antiphonal group will include Judy McFarlan, Lynn Ferrell. Mi kfll Thurston. Carolyn Bullard, Cheryl C r a b t r e e and Virginia Learning. Andrew Loney Jr. will direct the choir. The orchestra will play un der the baton of Dale Hallack.
