Photo by Peggy Walsh Dunsmuir Girl Heads Rainbow DUNSMUIR "Harmony brings! little bit of heaven to this I arth," Jo-Anne Kelby told her fellow members of Dunsmuir As sembly, Order of Rainbow for Girls, in accepting the post of worthy adviser at a public instal lation on the evening of Jan-i uary 21. 1 The theme of Hie evening-was "lwrmony Through Faith" and the new officers entered the as sembly room carrying white pray er books centered with red roses end formed a kneeling cross be fore the, altar at the opening of the ceremonies held at the Duns muir Masonic Temple. Other officers are Margie Green. worthy associate adviser; Margie Grenvick, charity: Donna Parson, hope; Linda Lockart, faith: Carol Wagner, recorder: Adele Kenny, treasurer: Patsy Hcrrin. chaplain: Darlene Wylie, drill leader; San dra Edwards, love; Wilma Jean Champlin. religion: Patty Brunei, nature; Elaine Wellman, immor tality: Peggy Johnson, fidelity; Mickie Ake, patriotism: Carolyn Clarke, service: Pam Strickland, confidential observer; Noralyn Caswell, outer observer; Diane LaBarre, choir director, and" Pat ty Rodlcy, musician. Sweet Alice Blue Gown was played as Jo-Anne Kelby entered the room clad in a full length for mal of varying hues of blue chif fon. She was presented with a corsage of roses centered on a prayer book by Steven LeMere The prayer book was a gift of Mrs. Stanley Macgirvin and Mrs. Gerald Wood. Jo-Anne is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kel by and a senior at Dunsmuir high school. Installing officers were Rayola Hanlen, retiring worthy adviser; Beverly Crowe, Katherine Nelson, marshals: Judy Crowe, chaplain: Susan McClure, treasurer; and Nancy Swift, recorder,' V Lodge Honors Noble Grand Durward Gass, host of the eve ning, termed the evening's theme an apt choice for Jo-Anne citing her activities in church work and assistance to others in appreciat ing and perfecting their musical talents. Helen Chiment sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" accompanied by Lil lian Volmcrs. Others assisting dur ing the evening were Gerald Gass, Richard Kelby, Lee Gass, Mrs. J. M. Jones and Mrs. Jack Les lie, hostesses, Bill Kelby and Die ter Heinrich. Harmony Through Faith" was emblazoned in silver across the backdrop behind the worthy ad viser's station. A musical staff with silver treble clef and notes of silver bells and stars w, . . ar ranged in one corner of the room and "Jo-Anne" spelled out in notes hung from the west balcony. Honored guests included Mrs. Dorothy Egass of Redding, grand deputy for District 2, Order of Rainbow for Girls; Ardis Keck, worthy adviser of Sacramento As sembly 18: Lee Gass. master coun selor of Dunsmuir DeMolay, and Bob Harris, master of Dunsmuir lodge, A.F. 4 A.M. The evening was also the occa sion for installing the Rainbow Ad visory Board for the year. Board members installed were Jessie Herrin. Bertha Poley, Clar ence Champlin, Edna Reed, Bob Harris, Kathleen Graves.- Lois Bee. tci. Elsie Ellington, Mina Kimble and Dons Morgan, mother advis. er. Mrs. Egass performed these installation duties. YREKA Mrs. June Acer, retir ing noble grand of Hope Rebckah Lodge No. 33, was the honoree of a surprise handkerchief and mis cellaneous shower given alter the conclusion of the recently held meeting of the organization. Mrs. Ager was escorted by noble grand-elect, Mrs. Florence Foster, to a beautifully decorated table. which held an enormous red heart covered with cards and hankies from the members. ' ! Mrs. Ager opened her many; gifts, after which Mrs. Bernicc: Meek gave a reading of a poem entitled "Friendship," which had! been prepared by Mrs. Sylvia Thompson. Mrs. Ager was then' presented a bouquet of red roses. by Mrs. rlorence roster. During the business session, an invitation was read requesting I members to attend a reception to! be given in honor of Donald Moody, grand herald of the Grand Lodge, scheduled to be held February 7, in the Sunnyvale High School in Sunnyvale, California. Mrs. Ager, who was presiding as the current noble grand, ap pointed Mrs. Clara Henderson and Mrs. Bernice Meek as a commit tee to contact members pertain ing to dues. An announcement was made by Mrs. Margie Swickard, United Na tions pilgrimage chairman, rela tive to plans being made for the Yreka High School to participate again in the United Nations con test, sponsored annually by the Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges. The contest is to take place some time in February, and several stu dents are already preparing to participate. Local contest winners will then compete in a county con test.
