OREGON PAGE 7 C f BETA PHI CHAPTER Beta Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met January 20 at the home of Ena Rodgers with 15 members answering roll call. During the business meeting the girls were ' asked to think o a slogan for the coming tea and! co-hostess Pauline Ballantyne. MR. AND MRS. STEPHAN J. KAY exchanged their Wedding vows on January I in Reno. The bride, the former Donna Lee Thoreion and daugh ter of Mr. and Mn. Thomas Thoreson Sr. of Dunsmuir, wore a pink sheath with a corsage of white roses for the tingle ring ceremony. Her husband, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kay, re cently completed a tour of duty with the Navy. Both young people are graduates of Dunsmuir High School. They will reside in Dunsmuir. A potluck for members and their husbands was discussed with plans being made to have it at the acht Club January 31. Each member may bring a couple. Delia Schroeder and Jean Bing ham presented their views on the civil defense all day program which they attended and were very enthused with the knowledge they gained at this meeting. It is hoped that it may be possible to hove a meeting with civil defense officials which all members and their husbands may attend in the near future. The program for the evening was Literature, prepared by Pat Lukes. Each member was asked to name a piece of literature that had broadened her under standing and why. General dis cussinn questions were answered and Barbara Kimes and Jean A THREE TIERED CAKE was cut by Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Burnett January 1 1 at a reception honorinq their 50 years ' of marriage. They were married January 1 6, 1 909, in Mar- - tinsburg, West Virginia, and came to Klamath County in ' I9I4. They operated a ranch on the Miller Island Road until I943 when they moved to their present home on ' Murphy Road in Grants Pass. Meeting for the first time in 1 6 years were the Bur nett's eight children who were present to honor their par ' ants. They are: W. J., George L., and Amos R. Burnett, of Klamath Falls; Mary Heavilin, Lakeview; Catherine Stew- - art, Tacna, Arizona; Jean Kane, Ashland; Pauline Stuart ; and John Burnett of Grants Pass. There are 23 grand- children and six great-grandchildren. BETA SIGMA PHI view. Barbara's was "Only In America," and Jean's was "A Family Affair." This interesting program achieved its purpose of having each member wanting to do more reading. Present were sponsor-director Flo rence Lungreen. 18 members and guest Aura Mitchell. During the business meeting an amendment to the by laws was read concerning absences from meetings. Betty Mi-Alpine was sel ected to model at the forthcoming tea and style show. A recommen dation was made to perform the Ritual of Affirmation, for one year members, at the same meet ing the new officers for next year are installed. The nominating committee elect ed were Lillian Hayden, Grace Pfeiffer and Barbara Kimes. Program for the evening was "Art," by Grace Pfeiffer with members joining in on general discussion questions. Cohostess for the evening was 9 j0 - i ' r , ' ' MRS. SAM SHAVER JR. was Carol Hergert before her marriage in Elko, Nevada, on December 15. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy P. Hergert of Fort Rock and is a student of Bend High School, Her husband was graduated from the same school and is now employed as a government hunter in Bend where they are residing following a honeymoon spent in Nevada and Idaho. iVi-. AND MRS. ROBERT STANLEY WRIGHT were married January 6 in the Federated Presbyterian Church of Reno, Nevada. The Rev. Felix Manley read the service ,in the presence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold G. Smith. Mrs. Wright, the former Susan Janet Smith, will continue her studies at KUHS while her husband is in basic training with the Air Force at Lackland, Texas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. BIRTHDAY PARTY ' BONANZA Steven Roberts was three years old January 27, and his mother, Mrs. Charles Roberts snd his grandmother, Mrs. Charles Roberts Sr.. gave him a party at the grandmother's home. His un cle, Richard Roberts, made a red and, white birthday cake for the occasion. Dunsmuir Pair Exchanges Vows DUNSMUIR In a wedding sol emnized recently at St. Pius Church in Redwood City, Sharon Darlene Emerson became the bride of Willis Monroe Whelchel. The service was read by Father Stronck. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis G. Emerson of Duns muir, wore a light blue tweed suit with a mink collar and a white orchid pinned at her shoulder. She was given in marriage by her father. Dolores Jean Emerson was maid of honor for her sister. She wore a blue wool sheath and an orchid corsage. Joseph Graf served as best man. Mrs. Emerson, mother of the bride, selected a dark blue tweed suit and an orchid corsage for her daughter's wedding. The bride groom's Barents. Col. and Mrs. Willis W. Whelchel of Auburn. Ala bama, were unable to attend the wedding. The newlyweds greeted guests at a reception at the San Carlos Garden Club following the cere mony.
