Economy Budget Includes
Pay Hike For UC Workers

crease for University of California
employes and a $43,525,189 slash
in capital outlay were included to
day in Gov. Edmund G. Brown's
economy budget.
The pay boost for university
employes, along with other wage
adjustments, would cost the state
,2'.I6.716 in the proposed $168.

Capital outlay was cut some
$43,525,189 below last year's spend
ing program, but 1 1 nance oiticials
ray this is not bad since it still
conforms with the state's five
year 214 million dollar university
expansion program.
"This budget," the administra
tion aid. "is a continuation of the
present level of service and pro
vides generally for workload in
creases only."
Brown's spending program colls
for $143,761,378 to defray opera
ling expenses. This is an $U,'JH0,
000 increase over last year, but
the major portion of this comes
from the proposed wage increase.
Only $24,327,155 is slated for
construction of new facilities at
the eight campuses of UC:
Berkeley $7,061,400 including
$I,67H.800 (o turn Stephens Union
and Eshleman Hall into teaching
ajid research buildings; $1,616,5(10
to provide off-campus storage fa
cilities. Davis $2,512,290 including $1.
