"Ralph's knowledge of the sport," Hunsaker added, "is out standing and he will make some school a great addition to its foot ball program. I have enjoyed working with Ralph the past three years and can credit him with bringing along many of our out standing backfield men," Hunsak er stated. Carr graduated from Oceanside (Calif.) In the only other conference ac tion in the county the Bonanza Antlers broke a win drouth by thumping the Chiloquin Panthers 43-27 at Bonanza. A non-counter played at Sacred Heart saw the Henley Hornets drop the Trojans. 44-35. while an other scheduled out-of-conterence match, the Bly Bobcats and the KU Wildcats, was postponed be cause of a flu outbreak among the Bly cagers. The Huskies win, their third over Malin this season, broke up deadlock between the pair for the number two spot on the league ladder. With a 6-won, 2-loss mark the Merrill quintet still trails the league-leading Bobcats who stand with seven wins and one loss Chiloquin missed an opportunity to slip into a tie for fourth with the Trojans by virtue of their loss to the next-to-the-cellar Antlers The SUA quint holds a 4-4 mark while Chiloquin is 3-o. The Antler position was not improved despite the wm. Merrill 50, Malin 44 A quick opening bucket by Ma lin's Jim Owens gave the Mus tangs the only lead they were to hold over the Huskies. With t h e score 2-0 for Malin, the Mustan hit a dry spell and went for the rest of first period without anoth cr score. Meanwhile John Haskins and Dennis Salvadori paced a 12 point Husky surge. In the second quarter the game took on a different aspect as the Malin squad got their feet under them and settled down to out count the Huskies 16-12. The inter mission whistle sounded with the Mustangs in the short end of 24-18 score. After a lackluster third period which ended 32-25 for Merrill the game turned into a red-hot, crowd- pleasing battle. Paced by high point man Jim Owens, who collect ed 15 markers during the game. the Mustangs hit for 19 points as compared to the Huskies 18, but tne timely combination of two six point efforts, one by Bud Maupin who terrorized the baselines and the other by Dean Haskins, who hit from the outside, gave the Mer rill five all the edge they needed. Owens 15 markers came off five field goals and a perfect 5-5 at the free throw line. Runners- up, Rick lllian of Malin and Mer rill s John Haskins each counted 12, both hitting six from the floor and missing one from the foul line. Merrill's Bruce Brickner counted three field goals and 4 for 4 at the charity line for total of 11 points while proving tne big power off both backboards In the prelim the Mterrill jay vees stopped the Malin Juniors Bonanza 48, Chil. 27 Coach Erv Kllis' Bonanza quint busted into the win column in a determined fashion as they meas ured the Panther five decisively. In a previous contest the Antlers were forced to return home on the sorry end of 47-46 count. Their 43-27 victory more than made up tor their previously bruised feelings. Led by 5-11 junior Chester Schoo ler who poured 27 points through the twine the Bonanzans pounded out to a 22-9 bulge by the end ol the first quarter then kept things moving until the half 33-16 or the Antlers. Both clubs hit the doldrums in the third stanza, Bonanza counting only two while the Panthers faired little better, connecting for only five. The frame closed on a 35-21 count. After a brief talking-to be- ween quarters the Antlers came back to work and counted 13 in the final period while holding Chil oquin to 6. Lhiloquin's Johnny Ochoa with 11 tallies was the runnerup to Schoo ler, the number three high scorer in the conference. Bonanza collect ed only four of 10 attempts at the foul line while the Panthers were successful on three of five. A .436 mark from the field spelled the dif ference lor the Antlers. The Antler Jayvees bombed the young Panthers 66-28 in the opener. core hoard Henley 44, SHA 35 In the only non-counter of the evening's action the Sacred Heart Trojans had trouble with the lion- ley reserves after getting off to a 10-9 first quarter lead. file voung Hornets, paced by high -pointer sophomore Floyd Ken dall who used a two-hand set shot lrom outside to good advantage. piling up a total of 14 tallies over the distance, got out limit be fore the end ol the tirst half and took their intermission resting on w-ib margin. A good, tight, well-played ball- game, the Trojans hung tough throughout the third quarter main taining only a two point flelicit as the third frame ended 26-24 for Henley. In the fourth canto coach Ted Ammerman had to call on Burrell Gober, Phil Swisher and Leroy Larson for enough steam to guar antee tne final 44-35 count. Topping a good overall - SUA scoring effort was Tom Amherg wno bit lor 11 points, followed by Mike Brumble and George Hurley each with 10 to odd to the Trojan total.
