This year's musical entertainment is ex pected to outshine any previous appearance of the best barbershop talent in the West. Jaycees Seek Young Farmer KLAMATH AGENCY - Any per son in the community who knows of an area-outstanding young farm er is asked by the Klamath Reser vation Junior Chamber of Com merce to nominate him for pos sible awards and recognition as the Jaycee - sponsored Outstanding Young Farmer project is under way. Anyone having a possible candidate should consult project Merrill Aux Holds Meet MERRILL Committee reports were heard by 14 members of the Merrill VFW Auxiliary during a business meeting January 7, at the Merrill VFW Hall. A board of trustees report made by Virginia Lampkins related that all auxiliary books had been audit ed to date. Margaret Moore report ed that Christmas gifts had been tent, to the auxiliary's' "adopted" veteran living at Camp White. The painting of the VFW Hall kitchen was reported to be pro gressing satisfactorily by Ida Fleck and Myrtle Rippey. Other reports on the final Lions Club dinner and the skating rink were also heard. Marian Knox, auxiliary presi dent, submitted for consideration her resignation as president. The resignation was prompted by her moving from Merrill to Lakeview in the near future. The farmer . search is aimed at honoring the community's aericul- turalists who have made exception al career progress without neglect ing good conservation practices or responsible roles in community life. Jaycees also hope that a better un derstanding of the farmer and his problems will result, and that more young people will become interest ed in farming as a lifetime ca reer. ' All farmers aged 21 to 36. who did not become 36 in 1958, are eli gible for nomination. Nominees may be land owners or renters. The local search is part of a nationwide effort now taking place in some 1,500 American communi ties, sponsored nationally by the American Petroleum Institute com mittee on agriculture and the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce. After community iudcine. iav- cees will enter Klamath Reserva tion's winner in the state finals. He will be eligible to represent the state in national competition and may win an all-expense trip to Ce dar Rapids, Iowa, next April for thp national awards program. There, America's Four Outstand ing Young Farmers of 1958 will be selected and honored. The Jaycees will make the award to the local Outstanding Young Farmer at their annual awards banquet to be held on January 24 at the Masonic Hall in Chiloquin. December Said Mild MOUNT SHASTA-Southern Sis kiyou County experienced its warmest December in nine years and the second warmest in r0 years, Frank Asbell of the Mount Shasta Weather Bureau stated in summarizing last month's weather. The average daily temperature in Mount Shasta was 43.1 degrees or 8.4 degrees above normal. Un usual highs were recorded during the first week of December with ton temperatures of 72 degrees in Mount Shasta and McCloud and 70 in Dunsmuir. Readings dipped toward the end of the month with '22 degrees at Mount Shasta on December 22 and 18 degrees in Weed on the morn ins of December 23. On December 28 and 29, the mercury slid to 12 degrees at the Mt. Shasta Ski Bowl. Less than half of the normal moisture was recorded during De cember, all of it after mid-month The storm beginnning December 20 which broke the prolonged dry spell brought 2.39 inches of rain to Mount Shasta bringing me sea tonal total to 6.88, about half the normal 12.91. The last week's storms, not yet summarized, have obliterated the seasonal moisture shortage, Asbell concluded. Awards Meal Scheduled KLAMATH AGENCY The'Klam- ath Reservation Jaycees will hold their fourth annual awards banquet on January 24 at the Masonic Hall in Chiloquin. Among the awards to be present ed that evening are the Distin guished Service Award to an out standing local young man between the ages of 21 and 36: the Out standing Young Farmer Award, also to a young mart from 21 to 36; the Senior Citizen Award pre sented by the local PTA; and the Key Man Award to the outstand ing Jaycee member chosen by the president. Main speaker of the evening will be County Judge Charles Mack of Klamath Falls and emcee for the affair will be National Director 0. W. "Corky" Corbett of Burns, The menu will be crab prepared bv the ladies of the Eastern Star The banquet is open to the public, but only a limited number of tick ets are available.
