It's "Easy to Love" on London Records (only stereo now. but monaural will follow soon). It is a collection of Cole Porter songs, done beautifully. This isn't such a departure for Siepi. at that. The tall, handsome singer likes to remember that, at 15. he was a member of a jazz singing group in Milan. But it's actually been a long time between pop engagements for him, al- SACRAMENTO l'PI - Mrs. Virginia Knight, wife of outgoing Gov. Goodwin J. Knight, Wednes day displayed a collection of pho tographs of all the first ladies of California who lived in the present Governor's Mansion. She explained that portraits of all the state's governors hang in the Capitol, so it was "appropri ate to hang pictures of the first; ladies in their home the mansion." The group of 11 photos begins with the picture of Mrs. George, C. Pardee, wife of California's 21st governor. The Pardecs were 'he first gubernatorial family to occupy the 80-ycar-old mansion, i An empty frame hangs next to Mrs. Knights picture. She said she expected Mrs. Bernice Broun,, wife of Gov. -elect tdiiumd G. Brown, to fill the frame with her photo when the Browns move into the mansion Monday. Mrs. Knight said the picture which was most difficult to ob tain was that of Mrs. Hiram John son, who had a life-long aversion to having her picture taken. The only available photograph of the railroad-busting governor and long-time U.S. senator was found in the morgue of a Sacramento newspaper (The Bee). The photo, a .newspaper engraving was re furbished and enlarged before it was added to the collection. Included along with Mrs. Pardee, Mis. Johnson and Mrs. Knight are Mrs. James N. Gillett.-Mrs. Wil liam Stephens, Mrs. Friend Wil liam Richardson. Mrs. C. C. Young. Mrs. James Rolph Jr., Mrs. Frank Merriam, Mrs. Cul bert L. Olson and Mrs. Earl War ren. The work of gaihering the gal lery of pictures was begun by Mrs. Knight last July and was finished Tuesday. The photo graphs hang along the wall of a hall separating the living room and the dining room. though he's followed pop songs and singers. But he made a point of not list ening to any recordings of the songs he sings in the album "not because I don't admire the singers, but because I wanted to come by something of my own." And he has. There's a strong possibility this all may lead to a musical com edy career for Siepi. something he'd like very much provided the part was right and he could sand wich it in somehow. But no night clubs. ' "I don't think they would be for me, he says. "I don't have what is known as a routine,'" GUESTS HONORED CHILOQUIN - Mr. and Mrs. Earl Grcear were hosts during the holidays at a bullet dinner honoring Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Tel ford and son Carrol from Spokane, who spent 10 days visiting in the Basin.
