GOC Holds Yule Party MONTAGUE The Montague ground UDserver Corps held a Christmas dinner as a farewell party on Monday evening, Decem ber 15, at the Montague Elemen tary School. Mrs. Rita Prather and Mrs. George Fiock prepared the ham dinner for the group. A cake was presented by the supervisor, llrs. Betty Dow. Christmas songs, arranged by Mrs. Vera Clement and presented Dy tier three children, Carolyn, who was a junior GOC member. and twins, Christine and Christo pher Havens, were on the pro gram. Mrs. uement played the accompaniment for the group in tinging Christmas carols. Discharge papers were presented to all of the members of the unit by Mrs. Dow and awards were given to Marie Russell, Helen Hen ry, Edith Williams, Rita Prather, oil 1,750 hour bars; Joyce Foster, Gloria Cavin, Ora Kouts, Agnes Savage, 750 hour bars: Myrtle Wid ner, Ruth Williams, Charlotte Da vis, Mrs. George Fiock, Kenny Buttram, all 500 hour bars: Mel vin Buttram, Roberta Buttram, Caroline Kouts, Jim Widner, all junior members, 250- hour bars. . The GOC will be completely in activated as of January 31, 1959. Mrs. George Fiock ' and Mrs. Kussell distributed the gifts in the gift exchange. Present in addition to those men tioned above were Irene. Paul, Doris Owens, Mrs. Earl Fiock, Janice Paul and Donna Aubrey. Seal Sales Total Told WEED Christmas Seal sales in the 1958 fund campaign of the Sis kiyou County Tuberculosis and Health Association reached the $2,600 mark on December 15, ac cording to Mrs. Bessie Higgins, McCloud, seal sale chairman, .. The amount is $900 short of last year's total, Mrs. Higgins report ed, with only a few weeks re maining in the drive. Reminder cards will be mailed next week to regular contributors in the event that some have over looked answering this year's Christmas Seal letter. School Board Holds Meet McCLOUD A meetine of the aiskiyou County Board of Educa tion was held at the county court- nouse in vrena December 16. The board approved a list of eight teachers' credentials; allo cated not to exceed $2,000 of for est reserve funds to Macdoel school District for capital outlay approved the appointment of Wayne Meraux as trustee of Mount Shasta Elementary School District to fill the vacancy cre ated by the resignation of Don Reed. They voted lb send Mrs. Edna Biirr and Mrs. Esther Foulke as representatives at the January 26 meeting of the National School Board Association meeting in San r rancisco. Dr. Don Meamber. member of the Siskiyou Junior College Board presented a detailed account of the plans and building program for the new college to be built at Weed. He explained that it would be less expensive to build a new structure than to repair the old Weed High School for college use ana to meet the Field Act requirements. A request for $50,000 forest reserve funds to assist in the equipping of the college class rooms was presented to the coun ty board. Board members asked that other school needs be deter mined prior to commitment of a full' compliance to the request and an answer to be forthcoming. IKE YULE MESSAGE SLATED WASHINGTON (UPI) Presi dent Eisenhower will deliver his Christmas message to the nation on Dec. 23. The President will speak at the opening of the annual Pageant of Peace on the ellipse immediately south of. the White House grounds at ceremonies beginning at 2 p.m. p.s.t. At the ceremony, Eisenhower will officially turn on the lights of the towering national Christmas tree on the ellipse. Meamber stated a limited build ing program can be financed wilh available funds. Operation of the college can be done on current taxes, he said. The group agreed that they hoped to open the college next fall to about 200 students.
