This was the last stop for Art Newman, factory representative, who had been demonstrating the spark plugs for the last six months. Newman took the equipment to Reno from OTI where he met the southern representative of the company who was to show it for the' next six months in the southern states. The picture, taken by Don Kettler just before the demonstration began, shows, from the left, Jack Douglass, administrative dean at OTI; Gary Croucher, president of the automotive honor society who arranged for the demonstration; Art Dickow, Newman and Stu Ross. Dickow and Ross are sales representatives for the company in the northwest district. A luncheon followed the demonstration. Registrars Quit Before Probe Opens MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -The U.S. Civil Rights Commission plans to resume us Hearing into Negro voting here next Friday, but there are indications there will be fewer voter registrars to question. Three already have resigned snd there were reports that mora would leave rather than allow reg istration of Negro voters. There also was speculation there will not be many records for the commission's subcommit tee, which will hold the second hearing, to see. Under Alabama law records of unsuccessful appli cants do not have to be preserved by the registrars. Commission Chairman John A. Hannah said he and former Gov. Doyle K. Carllon of Florida would make up the subcommittee. In San Angclo, Tex., Sen. Lyn don Johnson (D-Tcx) expressed the belief that "without question, the commission has the authority" to subpoena voter records in Ala bama. Speaking to students at San Angclo College, the Senate major ity leader also said he thinks "ev eryone ought to have the right to vote, whether he's white or brown or black." The registrars resigning were E. P. Livingston and Grady Rog ers of Macon County and R. E. Conk of Wilcox. Macon County, which has a heavy Negro popula tion, was left without a voter reg istration board since the third member had died about a month ago. ' Livingston and Rogers were among the five registrars who re fused to testify before the com mission earlier last week regard ing Negro voter registration and who were named Thursday in a U.S. District Court order. Jury May Advise Safety Systems CHICAGO (AP) A coroners jury probing the parochial grade school fire is certain to recom mend that sprinkler systems be made mandatory in Chicago schools, the foreman of the inves tigative body believes. Roy Tuchbreiter, an insurance executive and foreman of the jury ot 16 experts, said Friday that tes timony taken 'in the. initial three days of hearings has failed to pro vide even a hint of how the fire started. The cause may never be known. he said, unless more information is provided. The flash fire at Our Lady of the Angels School brought death to 89 pupils and three nuns. The jury, called by Cook County (Chi cago) Coroner Walter McCarron, is seeking the cause of the fire. The inquest was continued to -Monday. INCOME REMAINS HIGH .MADISON, Tenn. Kaiser is seeking about 5'i mil lion dollars on grounds the gov ernment did not keep its promise not to give a belter deal to any of Us competitors. Kaiser contends that Reynolds Metals Co. got more for its money in buying four surplus plants in December, 194!), than Kaiser- got in a deal concluded in July of that same year. Kaiser presented its case to Commissioner William Day in trial sessions in Washington and San Francisco in October. Norman Davis, Heidelberg pres ident, said sale of the Tacoma firm's assets will be completed by Dec. 31. Carling plans to retain all Hei delberg employes and to continue the Heidelberg brand, Davis said.
