Richard Neuberger was a factor in their recent rut Both Morse and Neuberger are Oregon Democrats. Both had Solons Scorn Plan Revise WASHINGTON (AP) - Both Oregon senators Wayne Morse and Kichard Neuberger objected Wednesday lo the revised Army Engineers program for develop ment of the Columbia River Basin water resources. The two Democratic senators agreed (hat the "308" report rec- omnieuds projects which would threaten conservation. Morse said the report, released Tuesday, proposes projects "which are not presently feasible for construction due to conflicts with sound conservation 'princi ples. The two also blamed any short comings in the report upon the Eisenhower administration, rath er than upon the Corps of Engineers. Turning lo I lie proposed high Mountain Sheep ' project, Morse .said upstream storage was sacn ficcd by "confirming the give away of the Hell s Canyon Jite before it is ascertained whether it is still feasible. "High Mountain Sheep would foreclose future construction of the Ncz Perce Dam, but under the corps plan this would be of no consolation to those interested in fish passage, because Lower Canyon Dam on the Salmon River would be substituted." The proposed Bruces Eddy and Penny Cliffs projects in Idaho are unacceptable, Morse said, "be cause of interference with fish, game and wilderness in their na tural state." British Actress Says She's Poor LOS ANGELES (API - British actress Tita Purdoin says she is penniless and that her divorced husband, aclnr Edmund Purdom. owes her $37,000 in support and alimony. She asked the court lo find Pur dom In contempt. Neuberger could not be reached immediately for comment. He was reported , en route by car from Idaho to Kalispell, Mont., (or a Senate subcommittee hear ing on a proposed Columbia River Basin Development Corp. INeuhcrger underwent surgery last Aug. 29 in Portland for a small, malignant tumor of the testes. Later, both Neuberger and his physician said the outlook was ex cellcnt for the senator's complete return to health. In his statement, Morse said "I am very happy to learn from the latest reports that Sen. Neu berger is well on his way to a full recovery. Although Sen. Neuberger and I have suffered great damage to our mutual friendship, it is my hope that Ihc therapeutic values of the passage of tune will re store at least some of our former respect of each other." Morse said there was no deny ing very deep differences. His statement continued: "However, that does not mean lhat we cannot and will not work together with the other members of the Oregon congressional dele gation on legislative issues that involve the interest of the stale of Oregon. 'When Ihe. break between Sen Neuberger and me developed over a period of weeks in Ihe last session of Congress, I tried on several occasions, including one breakfast meeting with my De mocratic colleagues in the- Ore gon delegation,. to work out a bas is for reconciliation. "My attempts failed. In such situations there sometimes comes point at which it is best to simply agree to disagree and bring an end to personal relationships. "Sen. Neuberger and I reached lhat point, At that time I was not aware that my colleague, Dick Neuber ger, was seriously ill. liv fact, not until 1 reached Pendleton, Ore., on Aug. 31, , 1058, did 1 learn for the first lime that he was suffer ing from a malignancy. 'It is my judgment that his illness explains psychologically even more than he may know his conduct toward me," Morse's statement said. Morse said he had sent this tele gram, to Neuberger from Pendleton: Midge (Mrs. Morse) and 1 want you and Maunne (Mrs, Neuberger) to know that we are waving for your speedy recovery :ind a diagnosis lhat gives you a lean bill of health.
