Dip Reported In Production PORTLAND (AP) - The West ern Pine Assn. said Thursday in its weekly report orders, ship ments and production of Western pine were down last week from the week before, but increased over the same week of 1957. Last week orders totaled 71, . 047,000 feet, compared with 76, O3B.000 the week before and 65, 057,000 the same week of the year before. Shipments were 80.180,000 last week, 84.633.000 the previous week and 74.386,000 the same week of 1957, while production was 83,864. 000 last week. 84.292.000 the week before and 73,721,000 the same week of 1957. Thermal . 78 46 Tucson 64 42 Washington 69 44 Pupils To Vie For Trophy Students from at least three county high schools will compete Friday night for a trophy, a $50 savings bond and the right to en ter a state oratorical contest. The occasion is a speech contest on the subject "Forest Conserva tion" sponsored by the L a n g e 1 1 Valley, Poe Valley and Klamath soil conservation districts. Tonight's winner will represent the Klamath-Lake region in a state contest at Baker November 20 in competition with winners from six other districts in the state. The Klamath-Lake district finals will begin at 7:30 tonight in the Shasta School Auditorium. Compe titors represent winners from local contests held in 'most of the coun ty's high schools. Entered in the county finals are students from Bonanza. Henley and Merrill high schools, and pos sibly others. The first prize, in addition to the privilege of entering the state finals, will be a trophy and a $50 savings bond provided by the J. R. Simplot Company s fertilizer, and mining division. The second prize will be a plaque and a $25 savings bond, and third prize will be $10 cash. Bolh sec ond and third prizes will be pro vided by the three sponsoring soil conservation districts. The tall blonde 28, was ar raigned in municipal court on a hit-run driving charge and freed on $.i00 bond pending the prelimi nary hearing. Prices Boosted By Oil Company PORTLAND (AP) One major oil company raised regular gaso line prices to 33.9 cents a gallon Thursday and other Portland area service stations were reported ready to follow suit, ending a gas oline price competition. The gas war. which started nearly one month ago. dropped regular gasoline prices as low as 26.9 cents a gallon. Oil industry spokesmen said they were forced to reduce prices in the face Of competition from imported cut rate gasoline from Venezuela.
