OREGON PAGE 9-4A Press Representatives Attend Ski Bowl Preview MOUNT SHASTA Over 210 guests will be entertained this weekend in a press preview of the Ml. Shasta Ski Bowl. Representatives or newspapers, radio stations, television stations, magazines, news bureaus, travel bureaus and allied agencies have been invited to "see for them Klves" the giqantic size and ultra modern facilities at the ML Shasta Ski Bowl. The magazine list includes Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Church Plans Many Events A number of events are on the October calendar for the Immanu cl Baptist Church including a cos tume party for old and young in the church on Friday, November 2-1. starting at 7:30 p.m. The older group will meet up stairs in the old church for a fun fest arranged by Mrs. Leo Zell. Mrs. Ronnie Walters. Mrs. Laverne Thompson, Mrs. Fred Binns, Mrs. Clco Phillips. Mrs. Dale Rexford and Mrs. Bill Russell, chairman. Downstairs. Ann Rexford and Dorothy Slagle will supervise Hal loween fun for children with games and refreshments planned. Also during the month, the losing team of the woman's Bible reading contest will host a dinner for the winners captained by Vivian Allo way. Mrs. Roy Galloway is in charge of the dinner. Mrs. Tarkel Tweet, president of the Mary and Martha Circle, has outlined some interesting social events as well as missionary proj ects for the coming month. All women interested in Christian fel lowship are invited to attend the ' circle meetings held on the fourth Tuesday o each month. Session Set On Semantics Semantics, the study of words and the relation of human behavior to language, will be the topic at a special meeting of the Klamath rails Lnitanan fellowship Sun day at the Klamath Art Center. A prominent lay Unitarian will he guest speaker for a combined family night discussion program. He is Henry Castor of San Ra fael, whose' topic will be "Some Antic Semantics. A politick dinner will be served at 5 p.m. Castor will speak at 7 o clock. Originally from Philadelphia, he joined Ihc Unitarian Fellowship in Marin County, California, in 1953 after moving west. He was instru mental in building the Unitarian Church of Mann in San Rafael He is on the church board and was dean of the Central District Unitarian Conference last year. Castor is representative for Lit He Brown, Houghton-Mifflin and A. A. Knopf, publishers, and is an author in his own right. He has published two novels as well as two children's books in the His torical Landmark scries. Mrs. Cas tor will accompany him. Members and friends of the Klamath Fellowship and all those interested are invited. Sunset, Motorland and Oregon Motorist. Gnosis will be arriving Friday night and Saturday. Lodging is being furnished in the motels and hotels of Mount Shasta, Weed and Dunsmuir. As soon as' they have checked in, the guests will be taken to the Ski Bowl Lodge. Saturday night there will be a ban quet, and Sunday morning there will be a breakfast at the lodge. As a special convenience for pho tographers, a Bell helicopter from Ai'lna Helicopters, Inc., Llna, will be at the lodge to give rides for aerial photographs. Approximately 50 residents of1 Mount Shasta, Weed and Duns- muir will act as hosts during the preview. They will be on hand to answer questions and get any de sired information for the guests. Headquarters for the preview will be in the lobby of the New Park Hotel in Mount Shasta. All guests will check in there to be assigned to their accommodations in (he various motels and hotels. Hosts will escort the guests to the ski bowl, and join them for the banquet and breakfast. Sneakers at the banquet will in clude Richard M. Oddic of San Francisco, a vice president and research director for the Bank of America: Willy Schaetller of Squaw Valley, technical adviser to the Winter Olympics Committee: Ed Johnson of Pasadena, president of the Far West Ski Association and Jim Hammond of the Califor nia State Chamber of Commerce in San Francisco. The press preview is a joint venture of the ML Shasta Ski Bowl corporation, the Mount Shas ta, Weed, and Dunsmuir chambers of commerce and the Coordinat ing Council of Chambers of Com merce of Siskiyou -County. Lynn B. Thompson, president of the Mount Shasta Chamber of Com merce and O. O. Apperson Jr., are the general co-chairmen for the event. Work on the preview started last March. At that time plans called tor a very elaborate grand opening preceded by a press preview, to be held in August and September. Construction delays, both on the hveritt Highway and in the ski bowl, caused by the unusually heavy snows last spring, lorced a postponement of both events. This also forced a complete revision ol plans for the grand opening, as it will now be held Thanksgiving weekend, in snow, rather than in summer weather. Thompson and Apperson urged everyone in the three southern Siskiyou towns to be on the look out for the guests of the preview this weekend and to show them every courtesy. They will be wear ing white name cards, with the w'ords "Press Preview, October !!3-2B. 1958, ML Shasta Ski Bowl" printed on them. "This area started to get a cry good reputation for friendli ness and courtesy during the re cent Rotary Conference." they pointed out, "and now we have another excellent opportunity to improve that reputatiun." The guest list for the preview includes people from as far north as Portland and as far south as Los Angeles. All media will be represented. "ML Shasta is the latest ski area in California to-have mod ern facilities installed We have been told for years that we have a great potential here, and this press preview is our first chance to show off what we have developed," Thompson said. "This development is only going to be as good as we are willing to make it."
