Hating the week of October 5 throuch October 11 as National Business Women's Week was is sued by Mayor Jim Cunimincs to the Vreka Business and Profes sional Women's Club. The VreKa BPWC has, through Its years of organization, assisted Girl' Scout troops; annually spon sored the all-star 4 H girl of the year in Siskiyou County; contrib uted annually to a I'nuippine scnoi arship fund for women; and of fered their time and assistance in various and worthwhile projects m fht- community throughout t h e year. Each year they honor the junior hieh school girls with a dinner, hishlighted with women of varied professions who talk on the many careers and fields open for girls and women to better themselves. The monthly dinner meetings of the Vreka club are highlighted with guest speakers who stress in dt idual topics of interest to wom en, such as legislation, national security, health and safety, inter national relations, public affairs and adult education. They also sponsor qualified women running for public office. Yreka's club boasts several mem bers who hold a public office. To Oil Pauline Davis, assemblywoman of the second district in California, has held a membership in the Vreka club for many years. Ra chel Cordes. Siskiyou County clerk. is president of the club this year. Another memoer, tsiene Esaacs, is the Siskiyou County treasurer and tax collector. Last year the Yreka BPWC in augurated a new phase in its year's program, that of selecting end honoring a Woman o( the Year. Interchange Bid Set For Opening Bids on construction of the three Interchanges to be built to handle traffic flow through the west side bypass to Klamath Falls will be opened by the State Highway Com mission on Tuesday, October 21. Three structures are involved in the bidding. The three are the in terchange over Nevada Avenue, the structure across the reclama tion canal and the southwest leg Interchange over the canal, all in Klamath Falls. Construction on the grading and paving of the highway itself is al ready underway and proceeding rapidly on the portion parallel to California Avenue. The bid opening will he part of the letting of bids on 22 projects, costing about So.100.000 hy the highway department. i OVER THE ' I GARDEN GATE FLOWER SHOW CHEMULT The Third Annual Flower Show was held by t h e Chemult Garden Club in the com munity hall on September 24 with a splendid showing of flowers con sidering the killing frosts. Autumn Splendor was the theme of the show and classifications in cluxt fall arrangements, dry ar rangements, miniature, bubble bowl, house plants, vegetables, horticulture and Junior division. Mrs. ('.rant Damon and Mrs. William Taylor were hostesses for the tea. Juniors winning prizes were Fred Molt. Bonnie and Ernie Tay lor. Special prize was won by Mrs. Grant Damon, president. R. illalliel Miller. 4321 Highland Way. was hostess to members of the Evergreen Garden Club for the September meeting Those present were taken on a tour of her new home before the business meeting opened. Mrs. Robert Luscombe, pres ident, called the roll, answered hy naming a lavorite fall flower hy 18 members. One guest, Mrs. Ship man, was present. Announcements were made on n planned rummase sale and on a district garden club meeting at Bo tinra. Mrs. Clayton Wiard talked on hardy asters, or Michaelmas dai sies. The speaker brought speci mens of named varieties from her garden. Other varieties of fall flow ers were exhibited bv members, making a colorful display. Mrs. Charles Thurman spoke on trevs. particularly the Douglas f;r Mrs. Thurman. this year's riis tnct chairman, is in charge of the study of trees this year. Rudy Monosmilh, slate 4-H lead er from Berkeley, will keynote the meeting with an address on "Path ways to Shared Leadership," the theme of this year's 4-H Leader ship Conference. Leaders will be able to partici pate in four of six group session! which will be based on the fol lowing: "Adult Leaders and Jun ior Leaders Plan logetner, : ins Junior Leader Record Book A Tool For Effective Leadership." "Leader Teamwork As Centered in the County Club Council," "Sharing Leadership with Par ents," "Using a Yearly Program of Work as a Basis for SharinH Leadership in a 4 - H Club," and Guide Posts for New Leaders. All leaders are urged to attend. THE CHUCKWAGON GANG. SILVER LAKE The Silver Lak Community 4-H Club, The Chuck wagon Gang, organized recently for the new year s work. Mrs. Hen ry Markus is leader, with Mrs. Helen Datnewood assistant. Bobby Rosebrook was elected president; Dell Swearingen, vice president; Karen Kimsey, secre tary and Howard Michaelson, news reporter. There are 14 members in this club. The members are interested In 20 projects. Leather work will have several enrolled, some as advanced exhibitors. A new project for this club will be horsemanship, to be led hy Mrs. Damewood. .Also new this year in this group will be bachelor sewing. SCOUT NEWS CUB PACK FOUR : The first pack meeting of the school year was held at Mills School Friday night. The divided meellng was presided over by Cub master Les Tinker, who took the opportunity to explain the parents' part in Cub Scouting. He said I hat for a boy to get the most out of Cubbing it had to be a home centered program. The Cubs game session was un der the supervision of Bob Moore, committeeman. The advancement program was under the leadership of awards chairman Randy Hamm, and Assistant Cuhinnster Bill Jen sen. Den Chiefs Kenneth Galloway, John Tinker and Lemmel Potts led the flag salute.. All Cubs participated In a Hula Jtoop contest with 10 winners. Pack Four completed lis summer water safety program with 10 Cubs taking swimming lessons and 18 taking boat safety; Danny Smith placed his second 1958 Safe- ly Good Turn Seal on their plaque. the third phase of this program will be home and fire safety. the tnllnwine Cubs received the awards indicated: Lee Turner. COURT OF IIONUK CHEMULT The First Court of Honor honoring Scout Troop 80 of Chemult was held in the com munity hall Tuesday evening Sep tember M. Presenting the boys with their badges and awards were Gordon Bolton of Bend, field rep resentative and John Hoodenpyl, lormer scoutmaster who had re signed because of ill health. Par ents were present lo pin on the awards given their sons. Scoutmaster William Taylor pre sided over the meeting. Those re ceiving tenderfoot pins were Denny lessup, Randy Hands and Billy Wilson. Second class awards went lo Mike Elms and Billy Wilson; lirst class awards went to Mike Elms and Billy Taylor and they also received their fishing merit badges.
