Wins Contest
Surprises that awaited football
fans over the weekend also made
their effects known to entrants in
the Herald and News Football Ex
perts Contest.
I wo games on the list (Michi
gan - Michigan State) and (Air
Force Academy-Iowa ended in
ties, and one game (Henley-Glen-
dale) was not played at all.
Despite these handicaps, we had
winners this week. They were:
Mike Jordan, 3317 Shasta Way,
first prize; Bob Victorin, Malin,
econd prize; Allan R. Taylor, Ma
lin, third prize.
Honorable mention winners were
Mabel Porter, Francis Kenyon,
George Shadle, Bob Flame, Ed
win Malork, Dick Abraham, Wil
liam Seaberry, Merle Halaas, Lar
ry Binney, Dean Matlock. Dave
Alexander, Vern Henngh, and A. Z.
Woody, all of Klamath Falls;
Bucky Wilson, Merrill; George H.
Brady, Malin, and Tod Shelton,
Lakeview.
All these honorable mention win
ners missed only five games.
Contestants are reminded that
tie-breaker games also are count
ed as games in the contest, and
the scores of those games are used
to break ties. Thus games are
counted both as games themselves
and as games in scoring.

Only Single Fire
In Klamath Area
Despite a certain number of
careless hunters, the only forest
fire in this area known to be going
.Monday morning was a small af
fair in the Klamath River Canyon,
about five miles downstream from
Keno, the Klamath Forest Protec
tive Association reported.
However, the KFPA added that
there was positive evidence of hun
ters' carelessness. No sooner had
deer season opened Saturday morn
ing than crews found two aban
doned campfires which could have
given trouble. The cause of Mon
day's fire was not yet known at
the time of the report.
