MONDAY. OCTOBER 6, 1958 HERALD AN'D NEWS. KLAMATH FALLS. OREGON Citizen Group Polices Books ALBANY, Ore. (API Plans are being made for citizens' com mittees to ban the sale of what they consider obscene literature in Linn and Benton counties. Linn County Dist. Atty. Court' ney Johns said the nine-member Linn County committee com posed of members of civic' or ganizations and churches will meet Thursday to set up the cen sorship plan. They will inspect all paper- bouna oooks, magazines and oth er reading material distributed by the Patton News Service at Corvallis. This firm has the mag azine distribution agency for Linn and Benton counties. If they find that a book is, in their opinion, objectionable, thev will ban its sale and inform the Patton firm. Patton then will pass on the information to the supplier. "In this way," Johns said, "we hope to discourage the production of unacceptable ma terial for distribution in our area." The committee also will seg regate what it considers unsuit able reading matter for children. Retailers will be asked to arrange their displays so this matter is not available to youngsters. Johns said that Dist. Atty. John Fenner of Benton County is set King up a similar censorship com mittee. Cucamonga Eyes Change Of Name CUCAMONGA, Calif. AP Cucamonga (population 10.000) is talking about incorporation and thinking of a name change at the same time. President Ted Vath of the Chamber of Commerce says co medians have made the town a constant butt of their jokes. One of the names under consid eration, Vath reports, is Arpege after the well-known perfume. That ought to slow down the jokesters, says Vath. For awhile, at least.
