OREGON PAGE 3 A BASIN BRIEFS Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. James Culley, Weed, are the proud grandparents of a baby boy, born September 25 to Mr. and M r s. Lewis L. Jones in Warren, Ohio. The baby has been named James Lewis Jones. Mrs. Jones is t h e former Joanne Culley of Weed. Jim Bob Culley, son of Mr. and Mrs. CuJley, is the baby's uncle. From Portland Recent house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Howard of Merrill were Mrs. Car ie Hopt and daughter, Joyce, from Portland. Weekend Visit Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Wilson and family of Mer rill spent last weekend visiting with relatives in Brookings. They were also overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Wilson in Grants Pass. Recuperating Larry Robin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Robin, Bly, has been in a Lakeview Hos pital suffering from injuries re ceived in a logging accident on September 8. A chest specialist was flown from San Francisco to Lakeview to examine him, but he was expected to be released from the hospital soon. Faculty Picnic The'comhined faculties and staff of the Chilo fiuin grade and high schools en joyed a picnic at Collier Park Sun day, September 22, with their fam ilies. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Brower, who had moved from Chiloquin last June. In Hospital Hospitalized for a ories of medical tests was Mrs. Gail Ridenour, Modoc Point, who was able to return to her position as second grade instructor at Chil oquin Grade School Thursday. To Cnrvaliis Mr. and Mrs. Les ter (Butch) Barnes and daughter, Kelly Jean, left Chiloquin Satur day to move to Corvallis where Butch will enter a pre-engineering course at Oregon State College as a freshman. Oregon State Upperclassmen returning from Chiloquin to Cor vallis to enroll at Oregon State College were Ted Siemens, a fifth year pharmacy student; Dick Sie mens, junior in physics: and Vic tor Sisson Jr., junior in forestry University of Oregon Only one 1958 graduate of Chiloquin High School chose to enter the Univer sity of Oregon this fall. Stephen Pope, last year's student body president, left last weekend to be on hand for freshman activities. To Stanford From Portland comes word that Michael Ravizza, who moved from Chiloquin this summer, is entering Stanford Uni versity at Palo Alto as a fresh man in pre-medicine. Manage Motel Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Brower were in Chiloquin this past week to get some of their furniture and to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill McNamer. The Browers lived here for several years until ne retired as school custodian last spring. They are to live in Idaho where they will manage a motel. Visit Friends Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Kircher and daughters spent last weekend visiting with iormer Chiloquin residents, Mr and Mrs. Mark Balfour, in Med ford. From Ireland Returning Satur day, September 20. to his parish in Chiloquin was the Rev. Patrick Lunham, who spent the summer visiting family and friends in Ire land. He is priest at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Home Mr. and Mrs. Clyde N. Lint, Mount Shasta, are expecting their son, C. A. Lint, home on leave from the Biggs Air Force Base at El Paso on October I for a 24-day leave. Mount Shasta Mr. and Mrs Emory W. Chandon state that their son, Emory W. Jr., will be dis charged from service with the U.S Air Force in November, and that he will join his parents in busi ness in Mount Shasta after his dis charge. Happy Camp Jimmy Gould is expected to return home from the' hospital within a week, where he! is recovering from a accidental gunshot wound in the abdomen. Horses Replaced By Helicopter CODY, Wyo. (AP)-The horse Is losing in its last domain pack trips into the wilderness. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department wanted to move a game warden patrol station from an area west of Meetcetse to a new site high in the hills on Jack Creek. The department estimated it would take 100 pack horses four days to move the cabin, board by board, its stove and other equip ment. Rupe, who just wound up his basic Marine Corps training with an in tensive four-week infantry training course at Camp Pendleton, California, will report on October 8 to Treasure Island where he will attend electronics school. Portland Firm To Build Ship PORTLAND AP A SI. 100.000 contract for reactivation of two aircraft carriers Friday was awarded to the Willamette Iron and Steel Corp. of Portland. In making the announcement, the company said the two vessels, the U.S.S. Core and the U.S.S. Breton, will be towed to Portland from Bremerton, Wash. The wartime crew of each ves sel is about 800. Both can carry fighter-bomber squadrons of 21 planes or 90 planes with wings folded. During the peak of the work some 500 will be working on the contract at the shipyard.
