These are for the year ahead. For the more distant future NASA -Is already at work on projects to explore the moon and then move I .on to tne planets. 1 NASA's program plans were dis- !. closed for the first time at a J packed-to-capacity dinner meeting 'of the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences last night. They were outlined by Edgar i;M. Cortright'of the Lewis Flight j! Propulsion Laboratory at Cleve-;-land, a major unit of the National ? Advisory Committee for Aeronau j'tics. NACA is in the process of y space - age transformation into NASA. i C'ortright said he believed that t through the NASA programs man 'would: 1. ' Morgan explained he was sen- itenced from Tulare County in 1949 to a term of one year to life for lewd and lascivious conduct. "I owe money on my house... Im in trouble, he said. Nelson called the Marin County 6heriff's office. A deputy took Morgan away to be booked as a parole violator in county jail. Extension Set For Zoo Line 3. Undertake exploration of .Mars, but certainly not for at least 10 to 15 years. Cortright descrihed 16 space ex periments which NASA has ready or can get under way within its first year of operation. Some can be combined, so that the actual number of launchings required has not Deen determined. Seven experiments involve sat ellites weighing between 100 and 120 pounds, launched into orbits some 300 miles above the earth. One satellite, used in geodetic measurements, would be equipped with a flashing .light so that it could be sighted simultaneously irom various tracking stations. Two satellites would be snecial ly designed to study the earth's cloud cover. Others would investi gate aurora, air glow and primary particles which color the early morning skies. A 100-pound satellite inflating to a diameter of 100 feet, for studies of communications, radar and air density, would" be launched before next July. Some of the satellites in this series would carry living organisms yeast,, initially into space. Nine of the proposed experi ments would involve satellites weighing more than 200 pounds, orbiting at more than 300 miles and serving as stabilized plat- lorms. Some of the larger satellites might be sent aloft before all of the 100-pounders were launched One of the big satellites would carry into its Tbit an atomic clock, a complex device making use of resonance within the atom It would be compared with an atomic clock on the ground as a check of Einstein's theory of time in space. Others in the laree cateeorv would carry optical or radio tele scopes to study the stars. Other experiments in this group will in vestigate the amount of hydrogen in space, celestial far ultraviolet light, electromagnetic radiation from the stars, cosmic ray sources the direction and intensity of cos mic dust, and propagation of rad iation through the ionosphere. Cortright said the experiments would follow- up the studies cur rently under way as part of the international Geophysical Year. Prison Escapee To Face Charges PORTLAND (AP) The Port land Zoo Commission will extend its zoo line to the Oregon Cen tennial Exposition next year, where It will operate a model steam engine and train. The Oregon Centennial Com mission granted permission for the rail operation. All revenues from rides on the trains will be used by the Zoo Commission to pay construction costs. The commission said the track and train will be moved to Wash ington Park extension of the zoo railroad after it completes the centennial run. Objections were voiced by some members of the Centennial Com mission who thought all revenue from such concessions should go to the Centennial Exposition. A majority finally approved the in stallation luesday. .
