Bill Ruddiman Photo Over 600 People Attend Siskiyou Livestock Show YREKA The 12th annual Sis kiyou County Junior Livestock Auction held Sunday evening at the county fairgrounds was attend ed by over 600 people. Highlight of the event was the tale of the grand champion fat steer. Pacific Packing Company of Gazelle, represented by Jim Eiler gave the highest bid of 56 cents per pound for the top steer. The animal was a 1,035 pound Hereford fed by 4-H member Monte Robi- son of Macdoel. Merle Goode of Macdoel was the breeder of the animal. Harvey Grigsby of Grigsby's Meat, Montague, purchased the next three top steers of the sale. The reserve grand champion steer was a 980 pound Angus fed and shown by John Schmid. a 4-H mem ber from Mount Shasta. The price given by Grigsby was 46 cents a pound. Grigsby also purchased the FFA champion and reserve for ?2 and 39 cents respectively. The FFA champion hog was raised by Stanley Sears of Gre nada. His animal., a 210 pound Duroc, was purchased by the Mount Shasta Milling Company and by Simon and McCargar In surance Agency of Montague at Officials Seek Road Completion MOUNT SHASTA Official ac tion is being tried to expedite the road building of the last stretch of the Everitt Memorial Highway. The Briggs Construction Company is being urged to hurry the con struction which is now causing a lag in ski bowl activities. State Senator Randolph Collier, president of the ski bowl organi zation, and Chapman wentworui leading director, are using all their influence to speed the road work. Carl McConnel, ski bowl lodge builder, states that he will com plete the lodge within two weeks. Eighteen thousand dollars worth of thermo-pane glass was received this week, and will be built into the structure within a few days. Despite road delays, the opening date has not been changed, and it is expected that all will be ready by October 1. 49 cents. Pacific Packing Company of Gazelle took the bid on the 4-H champion hog at 45 cents. This 220 pound Duroc was shown by Arlene Sears of Grenada. Roger Takacs, a 4-H member from Tulelake, sold his grand champion lamb for 80 cents a pound to the Hart Cattle Company as j-epresented by Mrs. Gladys Hart of Montague. The lamb was a 90 pound Hampshire. Eighty one buyers paid a total of $21,451.75 for 106 head of live stock, the farm advisers office re ported. The purchases included 53,06. pounds of beef at an average of $34.95 per cwt.: 2.945 pounds of hogs at an average of $44.23 per cwt: and lambs totaling 2.925 pounds at an average of $54.85 cwt. Frank Brahs, a real estate agent of Yreka, and John McKee of the Siskiyou Stock Yards were the auc tioneers for the 60 beef, 15 hogs, and 31 lambs which were sold. They were assisted in the ring by Bill Mathews of Etna; Harold Campbell of the First Western Bank in weed: Bob Bever of Cen tral Point: and Barry Crutchfield of Yreka. Mrs. Dola Brahs clerked the sale. Last year there were 44 beef. 26 hogs and 51 lambs purchased by 82 buyers for $14,862.72. Intruder Enters Catholic Church An intruder entered the Sacred Heart Church Tuesday afternoon and created considerable damage in a destructive outburst of vio lence, city police reported. Investigating officers said a sta tue had been broken in half, vo tive lights (wax lamps) were knocked over and smashed, and a hole had been broken in a wall. The estimate of damage was in complete, and church authorities were not immediately available for a complete description. Officers arrested Curtis Rave, 41, 833 North Ninth Street, follow ing the wave of destruction. At a hearing in municipal court Wed nesday, Rave was fined $50 or 25 days on a drunk charge and $100 or 50 days on a disorderly conduct charge. He was held in the city jail in lieu of bail, and pending possible further action by church officials. The National Bureau of Stan dards has said that a wood siding of white keeps a house cooler.
