Iff real far out, man, practi cally frigid, with about 200 cats and kittens diguing this new rum ble that's like orbiting on the ground. 4-H NEWS JUNIOR BRONCS The 4-H Junior Broncs held a horsemanship and horse judging workout at the ranch of the club leaders, Mr., and Mrs. Warren Woodard, on August 5. Members worked out their horses in figurc eighting, stopping, backing, mount ing, dismounting, saddling, unsad dling, etc., and each member judged a horse its good and bad points. These things were prac ticed in preparation for the 4-H County Fair. After the workout, the mem bers decided upon decorations for their stalls at the fair. When the meeting was adjourned, Mrs. Woodard served lemonade. The club also had a notluck barbecue August 12 and this too was held at the Woodard ranch. Members and their parents en joyed hamburgers, salads, cake, punch and coffee, after which Dot- tie Hiker demonstrated how to show a colt at the fair. After this everyone enjoyed an evening of outdoor dancing. Jennifer Hummel News Reporter 87. Year-Old To Be Guest At Pageant LAKEVIEW (API The first white child born in Goose Lake Valley will be a guest at the fifth nnnual Lake County Historical Pageant to be held Aug. 29. Mrs. Minnie Myrlle Duke, 87. was born in Lake County before the town of Lakcview was founded. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Myrtle, homestcaded north of Willow Ranch in 111119 aft er living briefly near Eugene. And that crowd, kids, id like nothing you'll ever see this side of .Mars everybody from corpo ration presidents to truck drivers and from debutantes to secre taries, all tuned in like hi-fi. The main idea here is that if you haven't driven a sports car. kitten, you haven't lived. It's a theory that seems to be spread ing all over, from Park Avenue to darkest Africa, with high con centration on the west coast and Florida. The talk is of comparative mer its of Jaguars, Austin Ilealeys, Triumphs, MGs and Corvettes. Members have their own jargon, as you may have gathered. Kor instance, a square is anybody who drives a standard car with auto matic shift and power steering. With-a-belt in the-back is fabulous, terrific, the most. There are almost as many wom en as men in this new speed fra ternity. Wives whose husbands have been bitten by the sports car bug have discovered that they have the choice of going along or becoming sports car widows. Unmarried girls have found that the best way to attract men is to buy a sports car. Then a lot of big business men and professional men seem to find an outlet for their spirit of adven ture in piloting one of these small, powerful speedsters. izi r I C.L. LANGSLET FORGOTTEN FILM WAUKESHA, Wis. W Wesley Fabry, checking over his collection of 20.1 cameras, came across a roll of undeveloped film in the back of an old "panoramic camera. It contained shots taken in 1900 of a train wreck in the Fond du Lac. Wisconsin area. Fabry presented the pictures to the Wisconsin His torical Society. Representatives Named For Red Hat Days Program Klamath Falls will have two rep resentatives on the Red Hat Days program this year. The local post master, C. L. Langslet, has been reappointed as Klamath County chairman and G. E. (Jerry) Rut ledge, 4700 Denver Avenue, has been named to the state committee. Rutledge is a Southern Pacific conductor and state representative of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. , Rollin E. Bowles, Portland attor ney who was recently named a member of the State Game Com mission, heads the state commit tee. Members in addition to Rut- ledge are Ben Buisman. Arthur K. Roberts and George Brown, all of Portland. W. O. Kelsay of Rose burg and Ed Sullivan of Hereford, Baker County. Burton Chamber of Lakeview has been named Lakeview chair man. Twenty-seven groups sponsor the statewide observance, including Klamath County Sportsmens As sociation and the National Wildlife Federation, in both of which or ganizations Langslet has a membership. The promotion is carried on each year to promote safety, courtesy and rcsponsibiliiy among Oregon's sportsmen and cooperation between sportsmen and landowners. Despite the increasing publicity concerning yellow as the color hav ing the greatest visual impact in the woods and fields, the name has not vet been changed from Red Hat Days.
