By VERNON SCOTT HOLLYWOOD (UP1) Clifton Webb, easily the most elegant ac tor in movietown, laments the passing of the grand gesture and stylish living that once was an integral part of being a movie star. Webb stands alone as a vest (weskit. if you wish) wearer in a community that has peeled to T-shirts and blue leans. "It's not merely clothes that make the man, or the actor," he said, sipping tea during a lunch break at 20th Century- ox. With a twitch of his refined mustache Webb surveyed his fel low actors and technicians with a cold eye. "Look at " that fellow over there," he said, peering over the too of his bifocals. He s hardly dressed at all. Well, at least his shirt is clean." Webb was decked out in a tweed sports jacket and gray flannels. A white towel tucked around his neck gave him a dash ing appearance. "People are much too casual to day, but I suppose the Edwardians said the same thine about the fol lowing generation. And Lord only knows how the Victorians felt when their era was ebbing," he added ruefully. The graying actor launched into a dissertation on manners, stig gosling that upbringing by parents had gone to pot. He recalled that he was raised in New York, Lon don and Paris. However, Webb was born in plain old Indianapolis "Perhap this slovenliness is a prtduct si those people from the WEDNESDAY 10:30 Luncheon With Jerrio 11:00 Lucky Partners 11:30 Haggis Baggis 12:00 Today is Ours 12: ju from rnese Roots 1:00 Queen for a Day 1:45 Modern Romances 2:00 American Bandstand 2:30 Do You Trust Your Wife 3:00 American Bandstand 4:00 Summer Session Educational Film 4:30 Komic Karnival 5:15 NBC News 5:30 My Little Margie "Convent ioe Story" 8:00 Royal Playhouse TBA 6:30 Chevy Showcase Andy Wil liams 7:00 Disneyland 8.00 Kraft Mystery Theater eolor B OO San Francisco Beat "Tl Mes senger Case" 0:30 Late News 9:40 Late Show "In Old California" John Wayne, Bennie Barnes.
