Weil-Balanced
Breakfast
Breakfast is possibly the most
important meat of the day yet.
by following the example set by
many adults today, the youngster
often balks at having to eat this
vital meal.
To make it easier for mothers
to plan a nutritionally sound
breakfast, here's a basic pattern:
1. Fruit or a fruit juice.
2. Hot or ready-to-eat cereal
With a generous serving of milk
3. Whole grain or enriched
bread, with butter or margarine.
4. Beverage milk or a milk
rich cocoa or cereal drink for
children; milk, coffee or tea for
adults.
This is the basic breakfast but
eggs, meat, fish or cheese may
be added as further proteins.
There's A Wide World
Of Fashion for Girls
From blue jeans to skirts and
sweaters to the new chemise JP
teen-agers have grown up.
Teens want "fashion firsts.
With allowances and baby sitting
dollars, teens direct the buying
power in sportswear and young
junior markets.
Its a fad, a fashion to looK
alike, to be one of the crowd.
This year's uniform is the wool
jersey "straight" dress. Not a
sack by any means, this Kniuea
wool dress has slimming lines
and subtle figure revealing fit.
Soft firm fabrics, such as wool
jersey or flannel, are needed for

Teen-Ager Eats Is Important
Most Growing Children Eat Too
Many Foods That May Be De
licious, But Not Nutritious
How many times have you
heard or ever expressed yourself
the remark that "I do believe my
teen-ager has a 'hollow leg' he
eats more than any ten people
put together !
It is a fact that teen-agers
probably consume more food than
any other age group; but nutri
tional experts claim "teen
agers are not getting enough to
eat".
The truth is that though the
youngsters eat a large amount,
they don't eat the right kinds of
foods in sufficient quantity
It has been found that girls
more than boys suffer from food
deficiencies probably due to
dieting in order to gam a popular-sized
figure.
Once teen-agers learn that by
eating properly they don't have to
worry about the figure (as in the
case of girls), and that they (the
boys) will build muscles, etc.
they are usually anxious to do
what is best.
It's easy to prepare any num
ber of balanced meals following
these basic nutritional facts:
Proteins, builders of bone and
muscle, are found in meat, fish.
poultry, eggs and cheese. They
should be included in at least two
meals a day for the growing
youngster, in addition to a daily
quart of milk.
Carbohydrates, energy boost
ers, are found in bread, cereal,
potatoes and sweets. They are
very important, but should not be
substituted for more essential
loods such as it was found some
dieting girls were doing.
Fats fight infection, combat fa
ligue and furnish warmth. They
are essential to a healthy skin-
tact teen-agers need to know.
Minerals help in bone growth
and to keep the body functioning
properly. They are found in fruits
and vegetables, and these should
be served two or three times a
day with emphasis on leafy veg
etaDies, citrus iruits and tomatoes.
vitamins, a nutritional essen
tial, are many and found in a va
riety of foods.
It has been found that although
parents are generally very consci
entious about seeing that a child
is in good health, can hear and
see properly they often neglect
youngsters tect.
Statistics show that more than
40 per cent of all grade school
children suffer from ailments at
tributable to shoes they have out
grown.
Many of these ailments are mi
nor, but with neglect, they can be
come so serious as to cause
acute walking difficulty in later
line.
Ihese relaxed line dresses which
"skim" rather than cling to the
teen-age figure.
Classic touches are in order
with the smoked pearl button clos
ing and the open polo shirt neck
lines the most popular features.
Teens tell us that the chemise
is comfortable. They feel "at
home" in the chemise. "W'e can
belt it or wear it straight, it gives
us two dresses for one." Thev
prefer the bright colors like or
ange, royal blue and vivid green.
Yes, they take to this daring new
fashion, because teen-agers say
"they want to be noticed."
